RE: Biodiesel fuel vs Diesel # 2

From the Diesel Supplement Manual for my 2008 F250:
"Diesel fuel containing no more than 5% biodiesel may be used. To help
achieve acceptable engine performance and durability, it is important to
only use biodiesel of good quality in your diesel engine. At a minimum,
the biodiesel should comply with ASTM D6751 or an equivalent
specification.
Use of biodiesel in concentrations greater than 5% may cause damage to
your vehicles fuel system components such as fuel tank, fuel lines, fuel
pump, fuel sender and fuel injectors. Concentrations greater than 5% can
also cause fuel filter restrictions that may result in a lack of power and
or fuel pump and fuel injector failure.
Look for a label on the fuel pump to confirm the amount of biodiesel
contained in a diesel fuel. Biodiesel content is often indicated with the
letter “B” followed by the percent of biodiesel in the fuel. For example,
B5 indicates a fuel containing 5% biodiesel. Ask the service station
attendant to confirm the biodiesel content of a diesel fuel if you do not
see a label on the fuel pump.
Biodiesel should not be stored in the fuel tank for more than three
months. If your vehicle will be parked or stored for more than three
months, then your vehicle should be drained and filled with a diesel fuel
not containing biodiesel.
During cold weather, if you have problems operating on biodiesel, you
may need to use a diesel fuel with lower biodiesel content, try another
brand, or discontinue the use of biodiesel."
Furthermore...
"Do not blend used engine oil with diesel fuel under any
circumstances. Blending used oil with the fuel will significantly increase
your vehicle’s exhaust emissions and reduce engine life due to increased
internal wear."
It also recommends shorter fuel filter change intervals if using biodiesel.
The newer (2008+) trucks with common rail fuel systems, DPFs, and catalytic converters are much more sensitive to fuel quality than some of the older trucks. And they can be extremely expensive to fix. Personally, I wouldn't use biodiesel unless it was the only choice.
As always, YMMV...

RE: Direct TV

I have DirecTV and use a slim line dish mounted on a home made stand made from pvc pipe. It takes me about 10 mins or less to get it pointed right. I use either an HD receiver or an HD dvr from the house. Works fine. I look up the az & el values for where we're going beforehand and use a compass & a protractor device to get it close & then fine tune it for max sig strength using the sig strength display in the setup screen. Cheap & quick & easy. Only problem is when there are trees blocking the satellites.

RE: using a Idaho Tote with 5th wheel?????

Better check. Not all states allow towing behind a fifth wheel. And it doesn't matter what YOU consider to be a trailer, it's what the state defines as a trailer.

RE: Landing gear cross braces

The only thing I think you are missing is a spreader bar (2X4) between the landing gear at the base plates/feet to keep from pulling the landing gear together, other wise I think it would work find. I have been thinking about doing the same thing myself, just have not tried it yet.
Here you go...

Rear:

Cheap but effective. One of these days I'll paint them.

RE: Landing gear cross braces

Naahh...duct tape is too messy...leaves sticky residue, esp. when you've been there for more than a couple days. :D

RE: Landing gear cross braces

A 2x4 and a couple C clamps works well and is cheap. Same for the rear stabilizers. That's what I use (pictures available). Why spend $300? You can even paint the 2x4 to make it look nice.

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

My thoughts...if I was camped at 9000 ft and it was warm enough to need the A/C, I'd pack up & come home. Altho, last summer we were pretty close to that...in Colorado, yet...

RE: Maxxis tire nfailure

"You do not have to run the tire at it's maximum pressure. Just enough to handle the load."
True for a tow vehicle but not the best idea for a trailer.
...
I think you're wrong. Maxxis publishes a weight/pressure chart for their tires. I would think they know more about their tires than Goodyear does. I run mine per their chart and it has worked out well. Running too much pressure for the load can also cause problems.

RE: Opinion on 5th wheel louverd tailgates

I have a Stromberg unit that I got from Etrailer. I love it. Makes hooking up a lot easier, esp. if you're backing up to the trailer on an angle...don't have to worry about the tailgate hitting the trailer. I doubt it has much impact on fuel mileage but I didn't get it for that. IMO, it's one of the best things I got for my rig.

RE: The Official unofficial CPE 2000i Generator Thread

Mine will run the microwave at lower altitudes but once we're above 6000 ft or so it doesn't do so well. The microwave will come on & sorta work but it's obvious that it's just barely working. The voltage will drop to about 90 v and the Champion is really struggling. I think our microwave is about 1000w.

RE: yellowstone

She's talking about going next summer. But I believe that that road is often closed until mid or late June. We were in Yellowstone last summer in late June and that road had just been opened. There was still a LOT of snow around the passes.

RE: Yes.....another tire thread about 225/75-15 ST tires.

I got my Maxxis from Discount Tire. I looked them up on their web site and printed out the page and took it in and they gave me the on-line price. They had to order them but they had them within a couple days. Then they installed them on the new rims that I supplied for their normal mounting fee. Maxxis are probably not stocked because they don't make as much off them. Instead, they'll try to sell you a Chinese tire that they make more profit from. Surely there's a tire store near you that can get Maxxis (or anything else) in a couple days.

RE: Yes.....another tire thread about 225/75-15 ST tires.

I'd go with Maxxis also (and I did). IIRC, mine were made in Taiwan. Or was it Thailand? I'd go look but it's dark and they're covered up for the winter. Anyway, it was not Japan or China (well, some might consider Taiwan as China but the Taiwanese would definitely disagree).

RE: 15" to 16" conversion

Just get some decent 15" ST tires. I second the Maxxis. Go up a weight range if you feel you need a bigger margin. Be sure your wheels will handle the pressure & weight, tho. 15" wheels are not expensive if you need to upgrade them.

RE: Tire mileage

We have over 10K miles on the Maxxis on our trailer and they still look brand new. They, and the wheels, are a couple sizes bigger than stock for the trailer so I suspect they're way more tire than we really need.
