RE: Good Campgrounds near Mammouth Cave

We stayed at Cave Country which is pretty close to the Park. It has nice level pull-throughs with full hook-ups. Not much ambiance but it is within walking distance of McDonalds and Cracker Barrel.:B

RE: overnight on Rt 301 in VA

You might think about picking up Rt.301 South in Delaware and travel the east shore of Maryland. Aproximately 30 miles from the Chesapeake Bay Bridge there is a Information Center/rest stop, there is a large vehicle lot at this site where you can catch some shut eye. You would pickup Rt.50/301 west and you could get off on in Bowie, MD for Rt.301 south or you could continue on around the Capitol Beltway Rt.95/495 which I prefer (stay off of during rush hour). Rt.301 has so many traffic lights it's become a stop and go highway in MD. On Rt.95 in Federicksburg, VA. there is a large shopping area that has a Cracker Barrel, although I've not stopped there. A rest stop is also on Rt.95 south of Dale City. On Rt.301 there is a Walmart in Bowie and just before the Potomac River bridge ($9.50 toll w/trailer) there is a Roady's Truck stop. After that there is the Flying J at exit 104.

RE: Nashville KOA

Have stayed at Two Rivers twice but do not think they have pull thrus. There is also a Jellystone on same route-Music Valley Drive-as the KOA and Two Rivers. Do you need drive thru for convenience or because you can't back your rig up? If just for convenience, go to Two Rivers and back 'er in!!!
My favorite resturant on Music Valley Drive is Cracker Barrel...

RE: Naples Storage

Try the storage place at exit 101. After getting off the exit on SR951 go south to the first light and make a left. Then to the very first possible left and turn there, the storage place will be on your right. It is behind Cracker Barrel.

Thanks, but being from Michigan and sitting there right now I kinda need a name....I'll do a search for storage again and see if that one is on the map.
Do you know if it is secure?

RE: Campgrounds on Rte 95 corrdor in NJ?

Also, there is a WalMart in Pennsville, 5 miles south of 295 on Rt.49. Take Exit 1, first exit onto Rt 49. There is a Cracker Barrel right there as you come off the exit.

RE: Branson Missouri Campgrounds???

Check out Branson Shenanigans RV Park on the west end of the strip. It is close to several reasonably priced motels that your family could stay at and walk to your campsite. Also about 3 blocks off the strip and near several restaurants, such as IHOP, Cracker Barrel, Olive Garden, Red Lobster, etc.
The park is quiet at night except for the fireworks coming from Celebration City which are beautiful to watch. They only last a short time.

RE: Going To Disney In October, Camping No./So. Carolina Border

Yogi Bear in Emporia, VA off I95 on 301. Nice open gravel pull throughs away from traffic with a pool. Leave to the South and there is a easy fuel up area and Cracker Barrel at the second "to 95" sign.
Exit 49 in Ga has Inland Harbor which is the same exit as an outlet mall with paved pull throughs but no pool. Office manager needed to change the cat litter in the office at Inland Harbor and there is no pool.

RE: Bay Mills Casino Absolutely the worst.

Photog101,
Sorry you had such a bad time at Bay Mills Casino in Brimley, MI. Your experience certainly not been ours! DW and I as well as our RV friends have stayed in the Bay Mills Casino Campground several times now with our RV's and have seen nothing of the comments you have cited in your thread post. The last time was in July of this year.
First of all, the Casino is all of a couple hundred yards from the campground. It's directly across the road from the Casino Campground! DW is disabled (can walk only a short distance before her legs lock up) and she can manage the trek without using a shuttle and always has so why can't you? Are you disabled and MUST use the shuttle transportation? That would make a difference. DW has been issued lifetime state handicapped license plates for our vehicles as many on this forum who know us have seen. She has good days and bad days of course. The bad days mean the mandatory use of a cane or more to even walk anywhere or maybe not go at all.
The food and service at Bay Mills has always been reasonable in our experiences. The food is not award winning but has been on a par with most average restaurants (Big Boy, Denny's, Perkin's, Cracker Barrel, etc, for example. About the same type and quality food as that we've eaten at any normal casino anywhere in the U.S. While we do not make casino's our destinations, we do frequent them about half a dozen times a year for a day. The smelly smoke filled loud atmosphere assures us that a couple hours exposure inside is more than enough to last until the next time! Fun for a while but when you keep the Casino's basic thought in mind to extract your $$$ from you, and they are experts at it. We have better ways to spend/risk our money even though we have been quite lucky playing the one arm bandits. Some times we come out ahead and sometimes behind. We just think of it as pay for fun for a couple hours and then go back to the RV for a shower and some clean clothes! We always stuff the Casino smelly smoke drenched clothes (YUCK) into a plastic garbage storage bag and put a twist tie on it so they don't stink up the whole RV. Glad we have such a fine wash machine and great detergents at home!
You may have hit it when there was the old saying that "anything that could go wrong did go wrong".

RE: Lakeside campground walterboro SC ??

Don't know about Lakeside, but would 2nd the New Green Acres post. It is a great place for a stop over. Right off I-95, easy in and out. The sites are hugh pull throughs, so don't have to unhook if you don't want to. A number of resturants at that exit, including Cracker Barrel. We stopped over there on the way back from Disney in late May.

RE: Land Between the Lakes ?

Yes, the Iron Skillet did burn, but I'm not sure if it is being rebuilt. Other restaurants in the area are Miss Scarlett's at Hwy 453 at I-24, the lodge at Kentucky Dam village State Park, Cat Fish Kitchen on hwy 641 at Draffenville, Cracker Barrel at Calvert City. Also at Draffenville, is Majestic Steak House and an adjacent Mexican restaurant. Hope this helps. Enjoy your stay in Kentucky.

RE: Need a place to stop overnite around Port Huron

The phone number for the Port Huron Township park is 810-982-6765. Do call ahead as they do fill up on weekends being right off the freeway. They are also across the road from a marina and get a lot of boaters camping on the weekends. I believe the cost is $20 - $25 per night.
If you decide on this park, it shares the same exit as the rest stop/welcome center mentioned in the earlier post. Instead of turning into the rest area, go to the traffic light, turn right and make a left to the Cracker Barrel - continue past the CB to the campground enterance. Should be perfect for your overnight stop.

RE: Need a place to stop overnite around Port Huron

You have a few choices - First, there is a 24-hour Wal-Mart store in Ft. Gratiot - about 4 miles north of the Blue Water Bridge on M-25. The second option would be taking first exit on I-94 where there is a Cracker Barrel with rv parking. Located behind the Cracker Barrel is a small campground run by the township.

RE: Myrtle Beach Restaurants

Just came back from Myrtle, Lakewood, and ate out with 8 including 2 children 8 and 10. Cracker barrel is a chain, but lots of variety and good prices. The Pizza Hut near to Ocean Lakes has a great buffet to fill up kids. My favorite Italian is Umbertos, at Barefoot Landing, not sure if at Place at the Beach. The best suggestion is to take lots of burgers, pasta, steaks, and cook on the grill. Then treat the family to ice cream. Lunches, and breakfast in, and dinner out or breakfast out and ,... Good luck, watch out for the golf carts.

RE: Campgrounds along the New York Thruway (90)

I don't know how far you plan to travel each day, and where your starting point is. I will say Exit 9 on Int 90, considered the Albany by pass, have two places that a lot of folks seem to use.
If you go left there is a Walmart's and shopping center. If you go Right there is a Cracker Barrel. I will say Cracker Barrels in general have RV parking in the Rear. But find the later you get there the better it is since they all close at Nine, and RV's for the most part are welcome. Bill

RE: MD to Yellowstone - What to see along the way?

Here are some of our favorite stops along I-90 in South Dakota...
-If you wanted to spend some time in Sioux Falls, SD there is quite a lot to see and do there. There is a zoo, a butterfly house & garden, a big mall, a WWII Memorial, and I'm sure lots I'm forgetting about. There is a Cracker Barrel restaurant if you like those.
-The Corn Palace in Mitchell is worth a stop for a half hour or so, it's interesting to see how they decorate it with ears of corn, and it smells like caramel corn inside :) Also in Mitchell is a big WalMart and Cabela's and tons of restaurants. There are also a few nice antique stores not too far from the Corn Palace, in the old downtown area.
-The Lewis and Clark Visitors Center near Chamberlain-Oacoma is a great SD visitors center, with absolutely beautiful views of the Missouri River and "West River" South Dakota.
-Al's Oasis near Chamberlain-Oacoma is a great stop for gas, groceries, gifts, and a meal in their restaurant. Nothing fancy, but good pie and great coffee. Great people watching, as all the ranchers and cowboys and local folks come there to eat. At that same exit there is a great antique store if you like antiquing.
-1880 Town is one place we've always meant to get to but haven't yet. All authentic buildings were moved there and made into a town showing how they lived back then. You can see it right off the interstate so there's no missing it if you do want to stop.
-At Interior we like to stop at the Ranch Store, a teeny little gift store, but the fun thing is that you can buy some peanuts and feed their colony of prairie dogs. They come right up to you and take the peanut from your hand.
-As you're passing Badlands National Park it's easy to get off the interstate and take the park's Loop Road that goes past some of the nicest scenery/features in the park. Our stop at the Ben Riefel Visitor Center was really interesting. You can follow the loop road all the way back to Wall and the interstate.
-Of course it goes without saying WALL DRUG... after seeing hundreds of billboards you almost have to stop :) They have very good donuts and coffee, and a great restaurant too. And all of the souvenirs you could ever want. I have noticed that they do have very good prices on jewelry, especially Black Hills Gold, so if you're interested in that you might save money buying there.
That will take you to the Black Hills, about an hour further west of Wall. There is so much to see and do there. If you're planning on spending some time there, do a search here or post again and you'll get lots of great advice. Have a great trip!

RE: looking for a campground in SE Michigan

If you like Cracker Barrel for breakfast there is one at exit #15 off I-75...while in the area try and visit the Henry Ford Museum...
Let us know if we can help any more...but as someone else said avoid I-75 through Detroit...take I-75 south to US-23 south (~ exit #114 in Flint, MI) and then follow MI Directors directions...Flying J at exit #151 if you need it...

South Jersey to Maine- Good overnight spot about halfway?

When we went to Florida this past May, I was able to find numerous recommendations along 95 for overnighting campgrounds. But now that we are starting to plan for a trip to Maine in Sept., I don't seem to be having much luck finding overnight campgrounds. We are not comfortable with the Wally World/Cracker Barrel set up, and will do a campground somewhere.
Route of travel is through Conn. via 84 to the Mass Pike. (I'm just assuming that will be our route of travel- that's how we did it a few years back when we were tenting!) Any suggestions? Thanks in advance.

Over night stay on way to South Carolina

My wife and I are starting to plan a get-away in early November. We are planning to go to Huntington Beach, South Carolina from Southern Indiana. With the money tight, we are looking for a couple of inexpensive overnight spots. Yes, I know we could do the Wal-Mart or Cracker Barrel overnighter (any safe, clean suggestion?). How about a camp ground that is just for the night and not a destination site. Right now the trip will take us down I-75, I-40, through I-26 to Huntington Beach.
Thanks for the suggestions.

RE: Campground in Kalamazoo, MI

Sorry but I'm not familiar with any others. There are a couple county parks that have camping but I would definitely stay away from them. Once you get past Jackson there really isn't much in the way of camping all the way to the Indiana border that would be along I-94. Fort Custer and Warren Dunes SP (down by the border) would be it and you'll have a really tuff time getting into Warren Dunes on a weekend.
There is a Cracker Barrel out on 9th street you could overnight at, but no shower obviously.
About 30 miles north of Kalamazoo is Yankee Springs SP which is really nice but you might have the same issue with 2 night minimum.
There are some private parks a bit south of I-94 in Decater. They might be a bit on the high side though. Also may run into the same 2 night minimum.
Maybe just get a hotel for the night? There are lots of hotels in the Kalamazoo area.
Good luck!
