GEO Method Discussion
In our ol' truck camper, we have a 12 gallon black tank and an 11 gallon gray tank. I've reviewed Charles Bruni's geo method web page many times, and he advocates using bleach only if there is a problem with odor; we've never had an odor problem, so we never have used bleach.
My assumption is that there is enough good anerobic bacteria in the waste tank to eliminate odor; this is given that there is an adequate supply of oxygen, which fresh water provides.
Am I correct in thinking that so long as we use enough water, water softener and soap are the only chemicals required?
Do you other geo method folks ever use bleach?
Anyone Using The Geo Method for Tank Treatment?
We're in south west Florida for the winter and have started to
experience some black tank odour problems. I'm planning to use the Geo method to treat the black tank. As I understand it, it involves using 2 cups of Calgon Water Softener, 1 cup of powdered laundry detergent with a couple gallons of water after every tank flush PLUS an occasional use of 1/2 gallon of bleach every few flushes.
Are any of the rest of you using it for your tank treatments? Is it
working?
One concern I have is using the bleach occasionally - I'm worried that bleach might damage the toilet seals and tank seals. Anyone know if that might be a problem? Do I need to dilute the bleach before adding, etc.????
Funky smell using Geo Method of dumping tanks.
I have been using the Geo Method of using Calgon and also some liquid laundry detergent in my Black tanks and this last trip out we had a terrible sewage smell. I figured I was doing everthing right and was reading somewhere that you are also supposed to use bleach. Is this correct? And will this help me get rid of the horrible smell. Also when I dump my tanks I am very meticulous and make sure I get everything out. Sometimes takes me 20-30 minutes just on my black tank to get it clean. Any ideas on what I can do different?
