RE: Salome, Az.

We have a few friends who have stayed in Desert Palms, for about 5 yrs. The club house is very nice, and so is the pool area. Of course, golf course is right there..Know nothing about the golf. Not really much in Salome. Hwy 60 connects with I-10 at exit 31. A few nice parks along 60 as well. Black Rock rv village, Desert Gold rv resort, both in Brenda(nothing really is Brenda-black rock cafe) Wagon West rv park(don't think they have a pool. But big club house.
Desert Palms has painting classes, beading classes etc.Large park. Some of the lots seems very large, almost to the point you want to do some landscaping!LOL..
We stayed for 3 yrs in Desert Gold, had a great time. lots of activities. Most lots are 50x38 with 50 amp and local phone lines(you have to contract with phone company) They also have 18 channel satellite tv cabled to the sites.
Brenda is much closer to Quartzsite, about 20 miles, where Salome is about 23 miles from Brenda. Since we are in Quartzsite a few times a week, we decided to move over to the south side of Q last winter. Saved us lots in Diesel and we were right within the action! Salome has a post office and a couple small restaurants. Also a hardware store. Most major shopping is done in Parker,Blythe Calif, or even from Salome you could go to Wickenburg. Some even venture towards outskirts of phoenix for the big box stores. Lots of folk will probably answer you, as many of us are in the Quartzsite area for the winter..we are gold prospectors and rock hounds and just love the area..
All the parks I mentioned are very nice and safe places.. Dona

RE: First Year as Snowbirds

If you dont mind where you are placed in a park, you should not have any trouble getting a site. The problem this creates, is that you MISS the whole premise of snowbirding. You miss the comradrie of the "winter season". I mean, Yuma, Souther NM? What is there to see? One nice day trip and you have seen everything. Two at the most.
But the meetings, the things to do in the park, the getting to know people, , that is what you will miss.
IMO, people who do what you are asking, never really enjoy the snowbirding experience.
WTTCS I agree with your way of thinking. The first year we went to Quartzsite was because we had friends that went there. What we found were those friends along with a whole host of new friendships to be made. Another factor for us was we found that the longer you stay in one spot the cheaper the rent was per month. The biggest expense was the travel getting there & back home. Fuel cost can run up pretty quick.

RE: Wandering Snowbirds

You won't have trouble finding someplace to stay, RV Campground or Boondocking. Recommend starting in Central AZ first (Phoenix area including Quartzsite), then Southern AZ (Tucson, Tombstone, Bisbee, Tubac & Yuma) and then move up to the Northern AZ (Grand Canyon, Canyon De Chelly & Indian lands in the North). This is following the weather with the exception of Yuma as it is warmest but out of the way. We have camped in 90 degree weather in May in Utah so it can be warm in the Southwest from early May on. Sounds like you are going to have fun. AZ& Utah are great states to visit but don't forget about New Mexico. The Northern & Western areas of NM are Great!

RE: Would you snowbird in far SE Arizona??

I sure don't consider Yuma isolated. They have more shopping than I could ever begin to do..Lots to see and do and many many parks. We stay in Quartzsite and get to Yuma once or twice a month..We head into a safe Mexican town to buy rx's, glasses and get dental work done.Los Algodonas is easy to get in and out of.And we feel very safe. DonaHey Dona, how's that new truck..:B..is it going to get you to Q this year?? :B

RE: Is it time yet?

We are looking forward to returning to Quartzsite, AZ already, and especially after just camping for a week in the mts of N. Calif. and riding our Ranger once again. We will leave the Sun of Labor Day weekend, stay in Bouse a week, then travel to QZ and stay there until the saguros bloom in May this yr. Can't wait to see our friends again and leave all the work around our house and yard!!!!

RE: Sunbirding

Do not kanow about the North West but we like to go to 61 hiway or North Shore drive North of Deluth Minn. in the summer. It is like air conditioning with the 50f air blowing off of Lake Superior. We also go to Yuma/Quartzsite & where ever the mood takes us.

RE: Westward help please

Perception to me is amasing! I was under the impression that Quartzsite was just for boondocking in the desert. Mesa looks like it is more populated than some of the other places. What are the cable and electric rates ? We plan to be atleast four months before heading home, hoping to change areas monthly.

RE: Westward help please

Don't forget to check out Quartzsite in January!!! you either love it or hate it..Lots of rock and gem dealers and vendors of all sorts.Convenient to Yuma,Lake Havasu,Palm Springs and Phoenix-all about 80 miles each.We stay the entire winter. There are about 70 rv parks in Q and others in the outlying areas. Look up Desert Gold rv resort in Brenda. Nice park, pool ,cable, activities. about 20 miles east of Q. Have a great time planning. lots to do in this area, unless you are into big box stores, shopping and traffic...Dona

RE: Going To Arizona

Quartzsite. We stayed at Hi Jolly BLM for 2 weeks free, then moved to La Posa North LTVA for 2 weeks at $20 per week. Took 2 weeks to get there from NW Washington and 2 weeks to drive home. Spent as high as $47 per night just north of San Diego, right on beach. Quartzsite is the place to go for cheap rent!!

RE: Going To Arizona

It doesn't get much cheaper than Quartzsite if you're ok with a samller place with few amenities.
Last winter was our 1st time in Q so we had a look at several parks prior to picking one for a month running mid Dec to mid Jan.
The cheapest was $145/month at Desert Dog and there were more at less than $200 plus power. With these you may get what you pay for.
We stayed at Sweets RV Park for $235 plus power ($30). Big sites, friendly people, few amenities. There are new owners who are improving the park so prices will likely be higher in the future.
Prices are much higher for the month of January only (sometimes double) but other months are very reasonable.

RE: Going To Arizona

Quartzsite is a must do IMPO, cheap. BLM land is wide open and free if you boondock. 140.00 for six months, if you want to be near water and dump . If your into flea markets, you will be in your glory Jan., Feb

RE: cannucks

we have been going to southwest Arizona for the past 6 years. Hubby likes to prospect for gold. There are plenty of us "canucks" in Quartzsite. When We go down to Yuma to visit friends from Barrie Ont. all you see is Alberta and BC plates! Guess no one stayed home!!LOL.. Florida would be a closer drive for us, but they don't have gold and hubby doesn't fish! We also have friends from Ont. who head to Florida for the winter. It really depends on what you like to do..
We enjoy Arizona, and planning for the coming winter is just beginning. We do rent a lot for the 5 months. Take day trips to Mexico and for this year are thinking of taking a cruise out of LA to the mexican riviera..no plane fare involved, its only a 5 hr drive.
Have fun planning..Dona

RE: Do any of u winter in Lake Havasu AZ?

In Havasu.... on.. or what is considered to be on the water (within 200 yards) you only have a couple choices Islander and Crazy Horse both will charge you the going rate for gold if you can get in.
There are few way down south out of town still on Lake Havasu but nearer to Parker and a few in the Indian reservations like Black Meadow Landing on the California side that are on the water. Also the State locations one in town down south cattail have camping but expect high prices and restrictions.
Other choices would be a couple miles from the water and that is not bad if you have some kind of a view of the lake (water) most will not.
All and all everything in Havasu is going to be up in price let’s face it …you have a huge beautiful body of water close to Las Vegas, San Diego, and Tucson/Phoenix with stores and the full services of a city. Or you can sit with the crowd in the middle of nothing ie Quartzsite (sorry if you Quartzsite people are offended) and enjoy the time there looking for rocks (great location for a visit).
Havasu is a great location I built a home there and purchased the two homes next door for my family enjoyment. Otherwise I would suggest checking Craig’s list for using a homes RV site in Lake Havasu.. many have full hookups (water sewer 30 amp). You also have up north Bullhead and Laughlin and the new casino RV park down south in Parker Blue Water to look for a spot.
Have fun Paul

RE: Do any of u winter in Lake Havasu AZ?

Lake Havasu it too far north for us - we go on south to Quartzsite! But if you want a water front site you will be out of luck. However several parks on the Colorado River between Lake Havasu & Q'site. Seriously some time in January take a day trip to Quartzsite.

RE: Pet friendly Arizona?

I don't know of any dog restrictions in parks in Quartzsite. We have been in that area for 6 winters, in Brenda at Desert Gold, they used to have pet and non pet areas, thats gone now. They do say 2 dogs per site, just be on leash and you pick up after..98% of folks follow the rules. We are now renting in a neighborhood outside Quartzsite. We have the mexican brick walls surrounding the lot and most have the iron driveway gates, if you rent(as we do) its up to the lot owner to set his rules. We have a cat and friends o the lot with us have a dog and a cat. No problem from our landlord. There are over 70 small rv parks in Quartzsite, so you do have your choice. I do not believe any have a pool in the town. Surrounding areas rv parks do. Dona

RE: Pet friendly Arizona?

Scott forgot to mention which park in Yuma: Fortuna de Oro. At that park, you had to park in the first few sites of each street...(?)
(Hey Scott!)
In Quartzsite there weren't any restrictions that I remember.

To the Texan, didn't get a chance to say-safe trip home to you two back at end of March..We are home in Ontario now, come on over, it may be chilly, but no snow! Betsy , thanks so much for the ornament, shall cherish it always, its just beautiful.. We got our new truck, its great. The cat is not going to know how to act in the big back seat this coming winter. Safe travels. If you need another lot in Quartzsite, let me know, there is one over on Diamond Place the main road in(around the corner from Ruby)it backs onto the desert looking southwest. available from nov1 to may1. price is right-don't think it has a shed..Hope you enjoyed Rainbow Acres this past winter..Dona and Elvin
