Here's a version of what some people call hamburger stew -
GOULASH
1 LB GROUND BEEF
1 SMALL ONION, CHOPPED
2 (14.5 OZ) CANS DICED TOMATOES
2 CUPS UNCOOKED ELBOW MACARONI
SALT AND PEPPER TO TASTE
COOK MACARONI. DRAIN. WHILE MACARONI IS COOKING,
BROWN GROUND BEEF AND ONION. DRAIN.
ADD TOMATOES TO GROUND BEEF. MIX. ADD COOKED MACARONI
TO MEAT MIXTURE. ADD WATER FOR DESIRED CONSISTENCY.
REHEAT IF NECESSARY.
My grandsons and nephews love this when we're camping.

I remember this when I was a kid and haven't really even thought about it as an adult until now... May go ahead and cook some up this weekend.. Thanks for the idea!!

It's been a loooong time since I made this. My kids were practically raised on foods like this..They probably won't touch it now !!! LOL
We will have to have this soon. Thanks for the memory/reminder

The version with tomatoes is the only one that I've ever heard called goulash. The cream of mushroom sounds good though. A little ground beef and a frying pan, mixed with what ever you have on your shelves, gives you many different meals....

Quote: Authentic Goulash is made with cubed beef, as many chopped onions as beef, tomato sauce, tomato paste and lots and lots of paprika.
I found that out when I was in Germany in the Air Force.
I went to a German restaurant and saw Hungarian Goulash on the menu. Sounded like what I had had at home and decided to try it.It turned out to be exactly as Chuckb1 describes.
