Anyone actually like Spam? Not email Spam but the meat product Spam.
I like Spam cooked in a skillet
Have stir fried Spam, cabbage, julienne carrots, bean sprouts, cooked spaghetti noodles with soy sauce ginger and a couple other oriental spices for a neat meal (like Yaki-soba)

Other Spam-a-licious recipes........or do you just hate the stuff?

Since the divorce, camping will be in either:
A tent from wal-mart.
The back of the 1998 Mercury Villager
The back of my new loves Honda Element
or...
On the ground with a $14.95 tarp from Pepboys over us.

Either way, we love the outdoors.

Coop loves it. He claims his mother makes things called Spamsticks. Essentially, they are pigs in a blanket, but with Spam.

Robert Fulghum, the author, describes a recipe from the White Trash Cookbook--a spam loaf. It involves pineapples and something else.

Spam has a fascinating history. I saw a show on it once.

I have never had it, but I assume it just tastes like very salty ham, right?

Tastes a bit like ham, but flavor can change depending on the way cooked. I do not find it that salty. Never ate it sliced and cold, but some people do. Might go pop open a can and see if real salty that way!

Here's a recipe I grew up with my Mother making with Spam.

One can of Spam cut into thin slices
One to two tablespoon(s) of Brown sugar
one small can of pineapple juice (6-8 oz)

Cook spam in pineapple juice and brown sugar over low heat until spam starts to brown. Be cafeful not to burn the sugar mixture.

I eat Spam all the time, at least when I can sneak a can into the house. My wife doesn't like the stuff so she won't buy it.

I cut it into 8 slices and fry it was brown sugar. I then put it on toast with mayonnaise. Add a little catchup and you've got a gourmet Hobo's sandwich. My mouth is watering!

I take flour and mix it with milk to make a batter. Slice spam, dip in batter and fry in skillet with small amount of cooking oil. Sorry I can't give exact amounts. I never measure just dump until it looks right.

Ohh, Ladycruiser, does that sound good!
I have made a sort of "boiled dinner"...in a big saucepan put a layer of those little baby carrots, a layer of cabbage wedges, and some thick-cut Spam (I use the light style to cut down on the salt), put the cover on and bring to a simmer and let simmer til the carrots and cabbage are just tender. If you don't overcook it it will not stink uip your camper and is just delicious. Purists (!) could add peeled potatoes and onion.

I love the stuff. Nothing quicker or better after a cold day in the woods than fried Spam between two slices of bread with a little mustard.

To All on this topic/Thread:
I got itroduced to the non-cyber type spam when I was a poor refugee in Europe in 1945. The G.I.'s would give the kids a can now and then.
It was a bit salty when compared to the local meat products during better times, but we thought that it was manah from heaven because we had next to nothing to eat right after the war. I developed a taste for it and it is now a staple in my pantry.
