I have been making this for over 25 years. It was my Mom's recipe.
Try and make it a week before serving, as it needs to mellow. It makes approx. one gallon. You will need a glass container.

Beat until stiff:
12 egg whites
Beat in
1/2 cup sugar

Beat until very light:
12 egg yokes
1 cup sugar
1/4 teaspoon salt

Combine the egg mixtures and stir until thoroughly blended.

Add:
1 QUART heavy cream (beaten slightly)
1 QUART milk
1 QUART bourbon Whiskey
Beat well...Add
1 cup dark rum

What happened to the vanilla and nutmeg? For us, it wouldn't be eggnog without it! Personally I drink my eggnog straight--the better half likes to dilute it with brandy!

I put the nutmeg on after I serve it in each cup, but never heard of vanilla. Don't want to dilute the whiskey taste.

OMG!!! A quart of whiskey?? Wow, I guess if you have some left over you could use it for jet fuel *grin*. That sure sounds like a lot-o-nog in your eggnog...but I can't wait to try it!! LOL

campfirecozy -
after a few days it really mellows, especially with the heavy cream and milk in it.
You'll love it.

Take it in the woods with you - it will keep you warm...

I believe you... I have the ingredients on today's shopping list. By the by, any particular brand of whiskey?

Thanks,

WOW! The egg nog is great! It does pack a bit of a bunch, tho. So go easy with it. Also you may need more than a one gallon container. It took three days for the nog to settle down enough for me to get the majority of it into a gallon jug. Thanks for the recipe.
