I'm looking for a good recipe for elephant ears like you get at fairs and such. I do not want to roll out and fry refrigerated biscuits. I'm looking for the real thing. Thanks...

How about elephant ears?? Do up your cinnaman roll recipe, slice off as if making the rolls except roll them out flat (about 1/8 inch) bake and enjoy. Been a long time but our kids and all liked them!

You can make elephant ears out of the frozen bread dough you get at the supermarket but it is better and a lot cheaper to make your own. Any bread recipe will do.
Don't be afraid of yeast doughs. Just make sure to warm your bowl, use very warm but not hot liquid to dissolve the yeast, and raise the dough covered in a warm place, like the top of the fridge.
Make the dough a lot thinner than you think you should, on the final roll-out, as it will puff up more than you expect.
Gosh, I miss those carbs sometimes....

Once you have the recipe, what do you use to make them? I have seen some gadgets in the sotre before, but I always just figured I could pour the doe into the oil "manually".

Islandgirl, I just posted the family recipe for white bread on a new thread. If you make this, it will make 2 loaves and you can use the third one to make your elephant ears, yum, yum!

The Elephant ears that I'm familiar with are basically flat cinnamon rolls. Think of a Focaccia made of sweet yeast dough and with cinnamon suger. You really don't need a special recipe for it.

I found the yeasted kind

And I found non-yeasted varieties

I think that you are thinking of "Funnel Cakes"

This is the way we make Elephant Ears:

Get a package of the large soft flour tortillas.
Pan fry in about 1 inch of Crisco oil, 1 at a time, until they start to brown, they will plump a little. Drain on paper towels, sprinkle with cinnamon and sugar mixture, enjoy.
