I am comparing 2 used models. 2003 Coachman 248TB and a Dutchman 2001 26BH. They are about the same price. Both in very good condition with the same options. This will be my first TT. I understand the Coachman is about 8oo lbs less dry. Driving a Silverado with a 4.8 I realize the Dutchman may be a little much for the truck.
What is your opinion? I assume the Coachmans quality is less. But the 4100# maybe better for me than the 4900# of the dutchman. All comments appreciated

There's a Coachman dealer in my hometown. We looked there frequently before buying, and though we didn't buy a Coachmen, we were favorably impressed with their design, quality, layout, etc. Our chief concern was weight - they seemed heavy. Hope you have fun with whatever you purchase.

I'm not sure about the Coachmen quality being less since I've had my Coachmen for a year now with absolutely no problems. I personally believe that either trailer is a bit much for that small engine. It will tow it back and forth to the lake but I don't think it will like hills very much. Both trailers are good units so I'd pick the one you like the most. Good luck/ Skip

Never owned a coachman, but I have been very pleased with our Dutchmen. I pull a 2002 26L with a similar truck.

I think the Coachmen is the higher quality unit.

I once had a coachman, cheapest thing I ever owned. Everything in it either needed to be fixed or repaired on a regular basis.
I've made it a rule to never buy coachman again.
but maybe mine was a lemon.. maybe...

I own a Coachmen, and have had very few problems with it. Those I did have were rectified promptly by the dealer. There was a small RV show here a couple of weeks ago and I had a chance to look at the new Coachmen models and also the Dutchman line. Putting the question of "lemons" aside (because all builders turn out an ocassional lemon) I think Coachmen has a slight edge in quality of construction.

I am well satisified with my Coachmen. I haven't had any problems with the unit. It tows nicely but I have found that I could use more power when I get into the foothills.
