I like the lance 1161, side entry, driver side slide. Thinking about getting one really loaded. (once in a life time purchase!)
It'll go on my 2001 GMC 8.1L 3500 4x4 DRW CC set up with air shocks & air bags. The 1161 is 3500lbs dry. Would appreciate feedback from anyone regarding this combo. Weight, the kind of ride you're getting, adequate power and torque?
Also, anyone out there towing behind this combo? What are you towing? what kind of weight, tongue weight etc.
Are you enjoying your camping or do you feel its "overkill"??
Is the weight of the camper limiting your towing capabilities??

I have an 1161 on my Diesel '03 Dodge 3500 4x4 QC DRW. The Cummins handles the load with no problem and the truck is solid. My year Dodge has a 4600 lb payload and my 1161 is about 3900 lbs wet. That doesn't include food, beach chairs etc.

My wife drive ours more than half the time... it's that easy and stable.

We have every feature that we could put on it... no problem. The GMC duramax/allison quietly does a fantastic job.

You'll love it. We did 80 nights last year, 24 so far this year. We never take it off the truck when we are traveling.

Good luck,

Don't have one but you're in good company. plenty of carrying capacity and a great camper setup.

Good luck, we'll see you out there,

I've actually got happijacs on my rig. Not a problem. Then again, the Dodge has a solid bumper. I would have to agree for a Ford - until they put a real bumper on.

I agree.. GMC doesn't have a happyjack problem. I prefer them to all of the belly bands that I've had on past campers.

I wish the would give up on the foil they put on the ford and just use plastic.... If I lean on the bumpers too hard it dents em...
Maybe they would use thicker plastic...
Other than that its been a good truck...

Update: ordered the Lance 1161. Eta, end of May. Upgrading to Torklift hitch so I can pull a trailer safely. My old Imperial 2 horse trailer has a 450lb tongue wt. empty. Heavy from what I hear. Thanks for all the encouragement!
