The web site for the many COE CGs on Lake Lanier and Lake Hartwell is: www.reserveamerica.com - go to Georgia and CGs listed as federal (not private) are COE. There are other COE lakes in GA (ie Allatoona, West Point, etc) but with some clicking you should be able to find something to suit you. Chestnut Ridge gets high marks.

Generally, COEs dont have pools. Many have beaches and some waterfront sites have good swimming/wading in front of them. Check the info on each site for specifics such as steep grade to water, shade, hookups (most W/E only - not many FULL ie with sewer). There is also Lake Lanier Islands which is more of a resort CG. I have not been there.

COE CGs are true "camping/boating" CGs, so if you want nature they are great! If you want nice KOA bathrooms or state of the art playgrounds - try something else. There are state parks (GA state parks are beautiful! - mostly W/E hookup though. Unicoi has some full hookups - call ahead) and Lake Lanier Islands CG (extra charge for Lake Lanier Islands park?)

Thanks SO much for all the info.

We just finished spending about 3 weeks at two of the COE camps on Lanier (Chestnut Ridge and Bald Ridge). Had all 3 of the grandkids up (one at a time!!!) They all had fun (as did we)

came home VERY impressed with the facilities.. and plan to go back asap.

Now, trying to find out when and where to go in Florida ... planning to head there maybe early Oct ... any help with camping there ??? Would LOVE somewhere on/near the beach... but don't want to spend $$$$$$ to do that...

Bald Ridge is our FAVORITE campground. The hosts are great people the sites and facilities are extremely well maintained. I hope you enjoyed your stay there.

We have stayed at River Forks Park (private campground) and it is nice also, has a great beach area.
