We had this for dinner tonight, and it was so popular I decided to figure out the easiest way to do it while camping.

Ingredients:

2# round steak, as for London Broil
2 bags frozen pepper and onion strips
2 large cans of chunky crushed tomatoes
Lawry's seasoned salt to taste
Pepper to taste
Mrs. Dash to taste

Cut steak into strips against the grain of the meat and brown in skillet or dutch oven. (I'm thinking that I'll brown the meat at home, then Foodsaver it to take along on the trip.)

Add peppers and onions and canned tomatoes. Season to taste. Simmer just as long as you can stand it, and serve over noodles, pasta or rice.

This would work really well in a crock pot, too.

Leave out the tomatoes, put the meat mixture on a french type roll, add swiss or provolone.

If I am in a hurry, I'll use sliced roast beef from the deli. I fry it up with the onions and peppers, a little bit of steak seasoning and then put it in a roll with the cheese. As close to Philly Cheese Steak sandwiches as I can get. If someone has a real PCSS recipe, I'd appreciate it.

Guess what we're going to have for dinner now?

You can buy frozen bell pepper strips and frozen onion srips in plastic bags in the frozen food section. I believe they are packaged by C&W brand.

sharlan...go into our Recipe Archive and do a Recipe Search on Philly Cheese Steak. You'll get 6 recipes returned.
