My Norton was working great..until I downloaded an update to Norton...Now I have to turn the Norton off to load my ISP...that leaves the door open for everything....I deleted 232 Ads that Adware detected...My AVg deleted one virus that got thru somehow...

Boy talk about a mess

Does anyone know why the Norton has to be turned off to sign on

Thanks

Which version of Norton's are you running, 2002, 2003, or 2004. Which operating system is on your computer. The reason I asked because there are/were some issues with 2002 and XP that would slow down your internet access so bad it would seem that the access actually stopped. I wen't nuts in late June and most of July trying to get some answers. All the techee sites were up in arms about this "glitch" when all of a sudden, on or about Jul 13, Norton had some updates flow down to us users. One of these "updates" fixed the problem. No one at Norton said a word while this crazy situation exsisted nor did the update mention a fix. You might try to perform a "live update" which should capture any "fixes" that Norton has developed for your problem. Hope this helps.

I was running 04 Norton with XP--it worked great until I downloaded the two upgrades...can't figure out which ones they were, as there are a bunch of upgrades that I downloaded..

Interesting someone said concerning running AVG and Norton...I removed Norton and this thing is working good...will give AVG a chance.

Thanks

Norton was slowing down my computer and constantly working against my video editing with Roxio. Just replaced it with McAfee ($20 at Costo) and things seem to run much better.

Just to add a side note - of importance to Windows XP users:

Symantec (Norton) just announced that if you upgrade your Windows XP to Service Pack 2 (due out soon), Norton can cause problems with your PC. This is apparently due to the introduction of the Windows XP Anti-Virus functionality in Service Pack 2. Norton stated that if you are going to update to Service Pack 2, Norton will have a NAV update to install before you install Service Pack 2.

I have not heard any announcements from McAfee or other virus software providers, but you should check with these vendors before just automatically updating to Service Pack 2.

Also, I cannot get too mad at Norton - do you realize that they have released a virus update every day, including Saturdays and Sundays, since March? Their programmers are really working overtime trying to keep up with all the new viruses coming out. If you have encountered a "bad" release from them, just wait until the next day because it will probably be fixed!

My computer will not shut down some times. Get CCAPP.EXE window. Just started a couple of weeks ago. Have to tell it to exit now. Use the Norton auto upgrades.

NORTON, they are preparing to put themselves right out of business. I installed a new 2004 CD in the laptop, now they are after me to download a lot more crap. If I keep on downloading their "stuff", the laptop will be full of Norton. I paid $49 for the new CD, now they are wanting another 30 bucks to make sure my security is up to date. What gives here?? I'm a bit confused, did you download an update to Norton Anti-Virus or Win XP?

AVG is a very good free anti-virus.

I'm running Norton Anti-Virus '02 and it works okay with XP SP 2. I've never upgraded to '04 as I never saw the need.

CJ, for any anti-virus program to work, it needs to daily check for updates and download them when available. Those updates are tiny and will have no impact on storage space.

I don't know what you bought but typically the Norton CD package comes with one year of updates included and they you have to renew.

Personally, no one should be allowed to have an e-mail account or internet access if they don't have their anti-virus programming updating daily.
