What would be the best way to reduce the interior noise from the engine of my 1985 rockwood motor home(chevy 454)? The dog house has insulation, but it is still way too noisy in the motor home when driving, some times I think my head is going to explode . I have seen some stuff on the web called brown bead that is supposed to help??
A lot of times the doghouse has a rubber gasket around the perimeter. If the gasket is broken, or if is not seating all the way around, it could be letting in extra noise. Also, have you checked the catches? I had a minivan a couple years ago that was noisy. Examination revealed a broken catch. If I pushed on the doghouse while driving, the noise would reduce substantially. Just a thought....

Camping World sells an insultion kit that includes heavy foil lined fiber insulation and high temp glue for 39 bucks. I put in on the dog house, and on areas around the dog house and it really helped a lot.

You might want to check to make sure your manifolds or exhaust donuts are not leaking. That will add a bunch of noise under there. I used two layers of under hood insulation under my dog house cover. The second layer did help a lot. As was also mentioned though is also check your gaskets for a good seal. Be sure to check both the cover and the frame seals.
Good luck!

I have used sound damping material from J.C. Whitney on both my gas and DP, Not only does it quiet down the in side of thecoach but it also reduces the Heat transfer.

I have used a different approach. I used a very dense, heavy insulation that is used in custom stereo installations. It is applied using a heat gun to bond it to the doghouse. I applied two layers, then a reflective foil insulation to reflect the heat. I found it to be much quieter than the Camping World insulation that I replaced. The insulation is available on ebay and at custom audio installers. Enough to do a doghouse is about $50.

Sounds interesting, Bayouman. Does it have a name or something I can ask for? Do you mean custom car or home audio installers?

After the dog house has been quieted down a bit as other posters have suggested. I found that if you will re-carpet the cockpit right over the exhisting carpet this reduces a considerable amount of engine noise and heat.
