I currently have a wilson antenna that is connected to a base for my cell phone which has been a great help with connecting in remote areas. My question is: can I put some sort of splitter on the antenna lead and use it in conjunction with a wireless setup on the computer without causing any problems? Essentially it would become a dual use antenna and my worry is that it would cause problems with one or the other.

Not easily. I suppose you could put an antenna switch in place to disconnect one when using the other. You probably don't want both connected at the same time.
If it were me - I'd use one antenna for each.

To Goldbrick: If I assume that your statement about a "wireless setup" on your computer is Wi-Fi, the answer is no. The reason is that the cell phone and Wi-Fi use different frequencies and your Wilson antenna is tuned for cell phone frequencies only.
If, however, you are talking about using your cell phone with a data cable to your computer to access the internet, then the answer is yes. But then, why would you use a splitter when your cell phone is occupied with an internet connection?

My thought was that I would use a sierra 555 or other wireless card which as I understand it is essentially another phone line so the tuning of the antenna would not be a problem. My concern was whether or not I could use the single antenna simultaneously or not.
I use my regular cell phone for business calls and my intent was to use the second wireless cell line for the computer and connection to the web. I am trying to be connected as much as possible to the web without any interference with my phone line.

In my experence, the Sierra wireless card has no connection for an external antenna. If you can find a card that allows for an external antenna connection, you could then purchase a splitter. If I remember correctly, the company I purchased my external antenna and amplifier also carried splitters. (Prime Cellular Site)

I'm writing this on my laptop with a Sierra 750 card plugged into an adapter cable going to a Wilson amplifier and external antenna. It doubles the number of bars I get on the connection. I also have an adapter cable for my cell phone which gets plugged in place of the other one. I've been looking for something like a switch to change between the two adapter cables. Wilson carries a splitter for multiple antenna inputs but apparently nothing for amplifier inputs.
The adapter cable for the Sierra card simply slips onto the card antenna post and replaces the minature antenna that comes with the card.
