Ok. I'm having a senior moment... We just purchased our first TT (28DBS Aruba) and I know my 2000 Excursion V10 Limited 2x2 will be an adequate TV. I've never cared too much about the gearing because the most we ever towed was the SeaDoo.
I've read alot about gearing, but can't seem to find the gearing information on any of the labels on the vehicle. I'll admit that it was a quick look, but maybe someone can pinpoint the location?
Thx.

It's my understanding that all Excursions have the 3.73; the option being a limited slip. However, my understanding may only apply to diesels. At one point I came across a listing of all of Ford's axle codes but can't seem to find it now. It might be worth a search.
The 3.73 gear is NOT the only one available on the Mighty-X. Unfortunately, I do not have the codes at hand (they're in the factory service manual), but you can find your code on the door-jamb info-plate. If it says “C1” directly below "AXLE", then you have the 3.73 limited slip (F250 / Excursion).
Ok. I found the Ford Excursion axle codes on the web, but the bad news is that there's no code number on the information sticker (really). If 3.73 is the standard configuration, maybe a blank area on the sticker defaults to 3.73? Ok. I'm guessing... Anyone else has any other ideas? Maybe there's a plate on the axle itself?
you might be able to tell by your trucks gvrw i have about 11000 gvrw. mine has 4.30 gears, if your truck is lower, most likely you have 3.73s. hope that might help.
An Excursion with an 11,000 lb GVWR???? I'm having a real hard time believeing that, since the Excursion is built on the F250 chassis and the F250 GVWR is only 8800 lbs. F350 Duallies have GVWR's around 11,000 lbs....
The axle tag will have the ratio. In the upper left corner of the tag, it should say '3 73' or '4 10' for an open diff or '3L73' or '4L10' for a limited slip. The first digit is sometimes obscured by the bolt that holds the tag on. After the ratio, should be '10 50', which is the axle size (10.50" ring gear). After that are a bunch of other numbers and letters for date and build information. The front axle, if it's a 4wd, should have a tag too.
