I heard about a way to clean an awning and was wondering if anyone has tried it. I guess you take Clorox and dilute it (I’m not sure how much). Then wet the awning with the solution and without letting it dry roll it back up. Then after about an hour unroll the awning and rinse it off. Anyone heard of this? Will it fade the color in the awning?

For sure. Clorox will fade anything if left on long enough. My GW washed a set of snooker balls with household bleach thinking she was doing me a favor. They are now pink.:o

If at first you don't succeed, skydiving is not for you!!!
There are awning cleaners on the market that are much better than bleach. Check with your local RV Store, Wal*Mart or Camping World. If you do decide to use the bleach be very careful when walking under the awning or you will have spotted clothing.

I've had good results with the spray on awning black streak cleaner (pick it up at Wally World). Just spray it on,wait awhile, scrub it with one of those long handled scrub brushes, and spray it off with hose. A cheaper alternative, and just as good, I think, is to pick up a bottle of Simple Green or Mean Green from the Dollar Store. Costs alot less, and is also effective. The job can get kind of sloppy.....especially when you are under the awning and get on the wrong side of the water roll off! I usually save it for a sunny day and just get prepared to get wet! Good Luck.

Here's what I do . I take a 5 gal pail, fill it with water, add i cup of bleach and ad a couple ounces of dish washing liquid to the mixture. I then apply the mixture to the awning fabric using a automotive soft scrub brush with an extending handle. I then rinse off the awning with a hose. The awning fabric comes completely clean with little effort. Works for me.

We apply a Simple Green solution, roll it back up before rinsing, move on to washing the rest of the camper. When we're done we open up the awning and rinse. Clean as a whistle!

I also use the Simple green, you can buy it in the concentrate and it goes a long way. To protect the finish I use protect-all.

We, too, use Simple Green. It goes a long way and is much less expensive than the rv awning cleaners. Bleach will discolor the mold, but it doesn't kill it so keep that in mind when using it. I found out the hard way. Best of luck.
Check your owners manual for instructions on cleaning the awning. Mine is a Dometic (A&E). It says to use a little bleach, and dishsoap mixed with water in a bucket. You fully unroll awning, wash the bottom 3', roll it up a bit, wash the next 3', and so on. Once you have it washed, leave it rolled up for a bit, then unroll and rinse. I used a carwash broom type brush to do it, worked fine.
