I am looking for yards that "parts out" older and wrecked motorhomes. I would like to have names, phone numbers and if possible, websites. I would especially like to find those yards that are close to Michigan.
Thanx:
"Doc"

Old Motorhomes NEVER die. Unless they burn or are totalled, they turn into playhouses, fifth-tier restoration projects, future retirement vehicles and even the proverbial doghouse that husbands spend time in when the DW blows a gasket. They become "someday" hunting lodges. They are much better than a camp tent.

There is NO graveyard for RVs, Motorhomes, Campers, Trailers or Fifth-wheels. Functional or not, driveable or not, they are all part of a "future" Utopia.

Do a goggle search on "motorhome salvage yards", you will get a lot of hits.

yes there are many salvage yards but I have come across several "hippy" types that live in them using a loophole in most state registrations known as "non-opt" or non-operation certificates. With it, for a small one-time fee, a motorhome (with or without an engine) will never have to be registered again until it is taken on a road or highway.
That cannot be done with travel trailers as they must be constantly registered or face a penalty on re-registration.....

have you checked out the new RV.net Blogs yet?

go to this webpage - it will give you 8 pages to print off on RV salvage yards, surplus suppliers, even a place to buy brochures and manuals for dodge motorhomes built in the 1970's.

http://autos.groups.yahoo.com/group/JamboreeRV/message/503

There's a "surplus outlet" in White Pigeon, MI

The really big salvage yard in US is Cherokee RV Salvage "Where old Rv's go to Heaven" Denver Colorado toll free 1-877-470-3433

Weller Auto - Grand Rapids MI - new and rebuild motorhome driveshafts, engines, generators, appliances, roof air, etc.
Graber INdustries, Inc in Constantine, MI - obsolete and new RV parts
There are quite a few RV salvage yards listed in Indiana and a couple in Iowa and Ohio.
Good luck on your search

Doc;
Many become "projects" much as you are doing. Others are simply recycled down to folks that just cant afford a newer unit. Some are converted to Flea Market haulers, others are turned into fish/hunting camps. I see one crushed at every Monster Truck Jam I attend.

There are many RV Recycle companies if you do a search on the web. I would opt for a new water heater but the rest should be easily located. Thats a nice looking rig you have and the upgrades you want should keep you even with the "Jones's" for many years.

Because there are so many tour buses in the Nashville, TN area for the music business, there are dozens of businesses set up for storage, cleaning, maintenance, repairs, etc. When I lived there in the 90s, a shop down the street from me had old Class As on the lot occasionally. I stoped and asked them once what they were doing with them, and they said that they did insurance repair work on them, even ones from the 60s.
So shops like that either know where they can get old parts, or they make their own.
I wish I had taken my camera, as this 1960 Winnabago Chieftan was sitting in a lot with a dozen million dollar tour coaches.

Would almost make a bet that soon we will see a MH Graveyard planted in the Arizona desert like the Old Caddys.

A great many of them go to the hunting camp. That way when their beyond use they simply enjoy being part of the campfire.

It's a wonderful thing that can bring us happiness from their birth until the day they float away into a chili night air.
