After much flip-flopping I finally bought a tent. I've looked at dozens of tents and I decided on the Coleman Weathermaster 17 x 9 3 room tent. I can't believe I actually got excited over a tent. An older design at that.

I also picked up a couple of the Coleman Ash Canyon sleeping bags.

Now I've got to seal the seams and find something to use as a floor saver.

Thanks!

My plan is to get either a PU or TT next year, but I wanted to get a tent as a backup. I'd kick myself if I didn't take the kids out tent camping at least a few times. We had a huge canvas tent when I was young. The new "plastic" ones just don't have that camping scent.

The only thing left from my camping days when I was real young is a Coleman model 220F lantern (April 1972) that I'm refurbishing.

Congrats! It looks really nice! We have a Hillary Grand Safari Party tent and I remember when I bought it I was as excited as when we bought our first house! (it's about as big!) We are quie a spectacle when we camp with the cub scouts but it's *so* nice to be able to stand up, move around, not be climbing and tripping over people and gear all night!

Enjoy it!

We are excited too as we just purchased a 13x13 Swiss Gear Dome Tent. We also use a smaller tent for 1 night stays while traveling. We will be tent camping on Jeep Jamborees this summer and fall. Keep us posted of developments. I think more are looking into tenting as fuel prices rise.
Later,
Tony

You win! That Hillary is HUGE. There's one about that size at Gander Mtn. here in Houston. I can't remember the brand name. Three big rooms and you could almost run around in it. Yes, I considered it.

Have you camped in the Swiss Gear yet? If so, how do you like it?

BTW, I'd LOVE to have a Jeep. My sons and I absolutely love them. My friend in high school had a '76 Levi's edition with a 304. It sounded MEAN.

Yeah it is! It's my Summer house I wasn't trying to out compete you though! A new cool tent is a new cool tent! We have 4 kids under 10 and when we family camp with the scouts we need the space! I have a spinal cord injury that makes the up and down and crawling around in a smaller tent nearly impossible. With my monster tent I can walk around and stand up until I am ready for bed. We also tote a camping toilet so I don't have to deal with the scout latrines. The drawback of course is that it is impossible to carry and takes up nearly half my cargo space on a trip! We did just buy a tiny TT thought, so my sleeping on the ground days are numbered, at least outside of scouting trips where bringing the TT would be unsportsman like! Though hubby says I am welcome to tent it with the scouts, he'll be in the TT up in the parking lot taking a shower and watching tv!

That sounds like a blast. We haven't gone on any scout trips yet. That was a major reason behind my getting the tent.

Where in GA are you from? I lived in Duluth for about 10 years before moving to Houston.

I'm in Marietta.
I admit, I love scout camping a lot more as an adult than I did as a girl scout! Especially, as my oldest son is a webelo now so we make the boys do much of the grunt work. I can sit by the fire and relax!
