I can't even get the icons above the message bar to work. Codes simply insert in the message. Even when I try to bold something. Little smileys don't seem to work either. Wanted to ask for help for a while already but thought I might figure it out. Have I got something set up wrong?

Give it a try. It requires 4 mouse clicks, and two key presses, unless you type in text, which is optional. Do it a couple of times and you will own.
By all means bookmark it if you want, but a couple of practices and you'll own it.

Let's see if we can track down what's going on.
There would be a series of questions that I need to ask and we can get to the bottom of it. Unfortunately, the next question depends on your responds to the last one. So, it may take a few exchanges.
Let's limit the discussion to the Bold icon.
When you click on the Bold icon, does an Editor Functions window come up? It should have a box for entering text, a Finish button and a Cancel button.
If yes, have you entered text in the text box and clicked on Finish?
If no, what operating system are you using? I'm interested in knowing if you have Windows XP, Service Pack 2.
OK, I'll wait for those answers.

OK I am replying to your message. I am typing word boldand then highlighting it and hitting the bold icon. In my mind that word should bold but the editor function box pops up and whether or not I type something in the editor box I get the 2 b's in brackets as shown above when I click finish. Now if I select the frown smiley and click the frown icon I get this  If I select other smileys I get other codes. In answer to your second question I have Windows XP Home Edition and service pack 2 is installed. As a matter of fact I have automatic update on windows to get all updates. I am trying to use the icons in the same manner as I would in word for windows. Spell checker works.

So, while you are in the editor, you will see 4ums codes. Once the post is made you will see the effects. If you edit the post, you will be back in the editor and will see the 4ums codes again.
I knew we, in this case you, would work through it. Now, we expect to see some of these features jazzing up your posts.
