Nine days ago, we announced that RV.net would start a free photo hosting site for members.
Today, we learned that if will come on line in "about three weeks."
In the original announcement we learned that members "will be allowed multiple albums with a generous space for pictures."
All of the details yet to be worked out. One of the problems is how to we prevent 'outsiders', with no interest in RVing, from joining simply for the photo hosting.

I hope this will be easy enough for the digitally challenged like myself, I still can't figure out how to do a sig pic. Sorry I don't have any good suggestion, except to monitor the pics. It could get out of hand in a hurry

Al, (flagypsy)
If you would like, you can send me a picture and I will resize it so that is acceptable. If interested, send me a PM and I will send you an email address.
I will be off line for about two hours.

Suggestion to prevent people from joining the forum just to have a photo album online: Use the monitoring devices you already have in place for monitoring the access and/or posting by members. For example, if someone has a photo album, but has not posted, searched, viewed any posts in, say, 6 or 12 months, you could send them a private notice that their pictures will be deleted or archived from the general album. In order to get them reinstated, they'd have to re-register. In the process, you can remind them of the rules of the forum - for RV use only. This process can also be a trigger for a QA person to review those pics to see if they're relevant to the forum.
Man, it's sick that I'm using the stuff I do at work even when I'm not at work!

I too can help out the graphically challenged with their SIGS. I have done 4 or 5 for folks now and I am happy to help out. All you have to do is email me the photos you want included and any text you want added. Also indicate if you would prefer I DO NOT crop your photos...as I will automatically crop them to fit them best unless otherwise asked not to.
EMAIL THEM HERE: RESIZEPHOTO@TRACKEDAGGRESSION.COM
Also...when you do email, please send a PM saying you emailed me as I am finding the majority of my mail from here is going in to my JUNK folder (still gotta "learn" this darned Thunderbird client)....

This is exciting news for me, as I have often posted images to help explain a techical point and I'm afraid that if I don't keep active accounts where the photos reside, they will not be found when a thread is brought up out of the archives.

This could help keep out those that don’t post frequently. Or how about “date last posted” having to be within a certain time frame?
Here is another thought/problem…
What happens if and when you were to purge an album from someone that was no longer an active poster but has linked images to threads and those threads at some point roll of in to the archive? Will the photos be lost from the thread or will you be able to keep/rename the photo and the link to keep the content intact?

Keep brainstorming.
You may not get a response, but ideas will be read.
Broken links are an inherent problem when pictures are allowed in posts. Probably less so if pictures are stored on RV.Net's own server.

Great news you plan to host a picture posting.
I'm not sure if this would be helpful - but I am a member of "the" most popular and widely used scrapbooking site - which has picture posting just for members.
The main purpose of the site is to discuss / share pictures of completed scrap pages and the products and services to create them. You can create albums and add your pics to the albums or just upload individual pictures. Albums can be flagged as private or public.
Maybe they have insight into how to do all this and would be willing to share with RV.NET developers?

Thank you Lucy, we're pretty excited about it. The package with all the features is already in the works so it will be in testing soon. I would have replied earlier but I wanted to pass your suggestion up to make sure.
