Well I just got my 5er out of storage and as I was removing my nice
$390.00 cover from camping world I noticed it actualy wore thru my
nice 1 peice rubber roof !!!...Thats right in 7 places, right along the
edges. Several holes are over 1" long right down to the metal edges
as the roof bends around the sides of the 5er roof line. Sure kept
it clean all winter though !!!

I managed to silicone caulk the holes but I will need to patch it
correctly later. What a complete waist of money and time to invest
in a top quality cover. It also wore holes in the cover around any sharp corner including around the gutters but I expected this.
This was a Tyvek/Polypropylene Cover.

Wow! I was planning on buying one of those to cover mine next winter. Can't wait to see others experiences with these covers. Sorry about your bad one.

I could have written your message myself. The same thing happened to me. The tyvec cover did a great job of keping my rig clean but it wore right through the edges of my rubber roof! It seems that no matter how snug the cover is, the weight of the cover will eventually wear right through the rubber roof.

I would imagine that RV's (like my Wildcat) that simply fold the rubber roof over the edge of the side-walls are going to have this problem with any type of cover. My father's Titanium uses a curved aluminum channel to transition from the roof to the side-walls and I suspect this would eliminate the pressure points under the RV cover. Who knows?

I've still got my cover and I may use it again if I can devise a way to eliminate those pressure points and preserve my rubber roof.

It is because of posts like these last year I didn't go the cover route. It is hard to weight through them though, some people have no problems.

Thanks for the "heads up". That was an important posting. Will your comprehensive insurance cover the roof repair? Probably not. Wouldn't hurt to ask your insurance company though. I had a car with one of those after market hood "bras". The wind made the bra flap and wore the paint down to bare metal. Insurance paid to re-paint the hood.

This forum has been very helpful as we have purchased a tow vehicle and a 5th Wheel within the last two months. Shopped for about four months before making our final decision(s).

I'm sure glad that I happened upon this heads-up concerning the problems with covers and the damage to rubber roofs. I was very close to purchasing a cover.

Hmmm ... we've always just placed a couple of those big plastic milk crates upside-down on the roof, with a heavy-duty tarp draped over and tied down to the sides of the RV. Never had a problem. The crates create a bit of a peak and keeps the tarp off the top of the RV. Even this past year, when we had a lot of snow, the snow simply slid off. And tree branches brushed aside. No marks. No problems. Cheap and simple solution.

Yeah, we get a lot of wind out here in Colorado so that made it worse.
I wont bother claiming this on my insurance, its already too high.
I guess I'll get a 1 sq ft of this material and patch it. Should
do OK. Again, dont bother waisting good money on a RV cover for 3
main reasons
1, they are a PAIN to remove and put back on (2 people for 32ft)
2, they will wear holes thru themselfs over time
3, they will wear holes in your rubber roof in less than 6 months

My wife thought I was crazy to buy one in the first place, but the main reason for me was to keep it out of the sun not to really keep it dry. I walked in the house tonight with my head low as I told her.
I'm sure you can finish my story. She was not happy and called me a
bonehead......Doh !!! ;(

Wow sorry to hear about your roof, but i thought (silicone) was a no no on a rubber roof something about it destroying the rubber compound.
