I'm in the process of buying a 2005 Chevrolet LT 3500 crew cab 4x4. Is the extended warranty a good idea? $1400 for 2 extra years and 24000 miles seems like a lot?

Thanks

I won't buy one on my new 2500 HD. An extended warranty never came in handy when I needed it. I would put the 1400 in the bank and save it for a rainy day which will probobly happen after the warranty expired anyway. Ever buy a warranty on anything else you owned? ever use it? oohh, they always put that fear into it"what if! What if! "
It lines their pockets, check into the deductibles too. You will be kicking in more than 1400 by the time you are done. Service your vehicle ahead of schedule with quality products without fail , there's your extended warranty.... jmho

I too am not big on extended warrantys. My thought is it'll break before 36000 if it's going to break.

I don't buy them. If you feel the need, don't buy from the dealership. There are GM dealers that offer the GM service plan over the internet at lower prices. These are not legally a warranty, and don't extend anything except maybe your payments. They are service contracts that cover exactly what the fine print in the contract says they cover.

All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.

dealers love to sell them, they are big commission items for them.

about 6 months before your warranty runs out, the company will send you a letter offering you an extended warranty, so you could put off deciding until then.

All the experts say to leave the extended warranties on new vehicles alone. In most cases you will have to pay a large deductible or the part is not covered nor is labor. I for one did not get it this past time. Most don't cover anything that normally would give you a problem. I had an extended warranty on a Ford and had problems with the fuel injectors. With only 45,000 miles had to change them out of pocket because you guessed it NOT covered under the warranty. Felt a little silly for getting the warranty when I left the dealership after I give them a small fortune to fix the truck.

Look into Warrantybynet (www.warrantybynet.com). I bought a 4 year, 100,000 mile, bumper-to-bumper, ZERO DEDUCTIBLE warranty for $1,300. Needed to use it a few times, they covered EVERYTHING, never once denied. You can use it at ANY repair shop, not just the dealer. And they pay on the spot, no waiting to get reimbursed. If you desire further information (I can give you the direct phone number if interested), PM me and I'll get back to you in a day or so.

Usually all the brands will allow you
to purchase their warranty later - before
the factory (standard) warranty expires.
Ask / check.

Be very careful about non-manufacturer extended service plans. Some of these have failed leaving the buyer with nothing. Some are just hard to deal with and get authorization. Some don't pay the full hourly rate. Some look closely to see if you can document all the maintenance required in the contract. If you can't, they stiff you. And, some are OK to deal with. I'd only consider a non-manufacturer extended service plan if it has a name I know...usually some major insurance company. Even then, I don't know how well they'd pay off.
