I did a search and either I didn't enter the right words or what but I didn't find anything about recipes that are easy and fun to do with kids. I've seen a couple recipes in the past and saved them. Maybe we should start a thread just for this category.

I sure could use some help with my 4 grandkids and making it fun to make dinner.

You are not allowed to cook grandkids in this country. Kids maybe, but not grandkids.

Sorry I could not resist.

Our grandkids like ANYTHING they (themselves) can cook over a campfire, on a stick being best.

I agree with Chuck&Gail.....my boys will eat anything they make themselves, add a stick and a fire, they are in heaven. Shish-kabobs will be my next item as the garden is coming in. Gets them to eat their vegetables. Marinate everything and let them skewer them. Can do the same with fruit although I don't grill the fruit - there are recipes for that also. We also make some things ahead so I'm not spending my time in the kitchen while everyone else is having fun! Depending on age, use cookie cutters to cut out bread/ cheese shapes....

I found these recipes on this forum before, I think, so they are not mine. These types of recipes are what I'm looking for if anyone has any.

I thought they would be fun for kids to help make. My daughter is starting a once a week Goofy Goobery Family Night where they all participate in making a fun meal, sit on a rug on the LR floor and eat the food, and then play hide and seek or something as a family. Just something to do to add some lightheartedness to their life.

use individual bags of doritos or fritos
put the following right into the bag

taco meat
shredded cheese
salsa
sour cream
lettuce

close bag and crunch all together
open bag and eat right out of bag

Here's a quick and easy ice box pie.
One pre baked pie crust
One cup sugar
One cup cream cheese
One cup kool whip
One cup blue berries
Mix the sugar, cream cheese, and kool whip together. Then fold in the blue berries.
Place in the pie crust.
Put in the fridge for a couple hours and it's ready to eat..

Hi-
Two of our Girl Scout troop's favorite "recipes" are

chicken/cheese quesidillas
we set out the tortillas, pre-shredded cheese, pre-cooked and shredded chicken, sour cream, salsa
each girl puts her own quesidilla together and puts cooks it on the griddle or frying pan
No one can complain- works perfect for our vegetarians as well

pasta with cheese
favorite is bow tie shapped (also easier to deal with while camping than spaghetti imho!) cook as package directs, after drained, add butter, grated parmesean cheese, garlic powder and italian seasoning
stir well

We like to cook on an open fire whenever possible. One of our kids favorite recipes is hobo dinners.
Chicken or beef cut into small cubes.
Carrots, diced small.
Celery, sliced at an angle.
Potatos, diced small.
Sweet onions, chopped small.
Packet of gravy mix, chicken or beef.
Salt, pepper, and Johnnies.
Toss everything into a piece of heavy duty aluminum foil, sprinkle a little gravy mix on top. Wrap tight in aluminum foil. Wrap again in wet newspaper. then more foil. Toss into firepit with a good bed of coals. When you see steam pull them out.

Another recipe I got from someone else but cannot remember whom is GORP balls.

Granola
peanut butter
shredded coconut
honey
raisins

Mix all ingredients and roll them into small balls. Wrap in wax paper then stick them in the fridge.

This isn't a dinner recipe, but...

When our boys were little every time we went camping they made what we call "Survival Necklaces". They would string cheerios, fruit loops, raisins and dried cranberries, etc. into edible necklaces. They'd make them in the evening by the fire, and then store them in a plastic bag for the night. The next morning, they'd wear them while we went hiking. This way they had instant healthy trail mix that they could munch on along the way. They were always a big hit when we had other children along too.

CHEERS!

Then there is always the perennial favorite wiener winks on a stick.

I can of crescent rolls that come in a tube.

1 package of decent hotdogs.

Sticks

Cut hotdogs in half. Insert onto stick. Wrap one piece of the crescent roll dough around the hotdog making sure to pinch the dough at both ends.

Cook on fire as you would a normal hotdog.
