I'm receiving conflicting info regarding which Geo Tracker can be towed 4 wheels down... I'm looking at a 2 wheel drive automatic which they say is the best one to tow but others say I need a 4x4 standard. I called a GM Dealer and they say the 2 wheel drive is the best.... ANY HELP will be appreciated...

I have towed my Geo 4x4, manual hubs, over 50,000 miles without any problems. That is "good" to me. And I like the 4x4 feature in our snows here -- the thing would climb a tree if I wanted it to.

We have Sidekick 4x4, which is essentially the same vehicle. Right in the owners manual it tells you what you need and how to tow 4-down. There are some differences in method with newer models, but all are OK for towing.
Not sure about 2WD.

We tow a 2000 Tracker, with auto, and 4X4. No problems at all. All four down.

My memory is that two wheel drives are not able to be towed four down.
I had a Suzzuki Sidekick and my memory says no four down.
One of you with your owners manual could look in your book.
My new XL7 says NO for either auto or manual shift.

I had a Tracker, sold it now have Jeep. You need a 4X4 either auto or manual to tow 4 down with out modifictions. Maybe the dealer is trying to unload 2 wheel drive unit. I would only go with 4X4.

I have a 1997 sidekick which is the same as a tracker.
It 2 WD BUT its 5 speed manual tranny. I have towed it
everywhere. Put it in neutal, emerg. brake off, key to the first
position, shut radio off. If you do not want the miles counted.
Disconnect the speedo at the tranny, very easy.

Two wheel drive 5-speed standard CAN be towed. Two wheel drive automatic transmission CAN NOT be towed.

The 2WD Manual(5 Speed) Tows fine! But do not try towing a 2WD Automatic!
The 4X4's have no problem with either the Auto or Standard because you can Freewheel the Transfer case!
