Our female Papillon smelled like fritos for 2-3 months. I even started calling her Frito. It went away. Never figured out what caused it.

Funny, I belong to a rat terrier message board and we just recently had a discussion about all our ratties and their "Frito Feet Syndrome". Wonder what it is? Our dog's don't eat anything with corn (unless they are cleaning off the cobs after we have fresh sweet corn) so I doubt that's the answer...

Dixie Dew, the mighty Schnauzer, has a bready smell..I guess it could be a 'Frito' smell. I thought she had diabetes and when she was sick I had the vet check for that. $100 bucks later..could have bought a case of Fritoes. Didn't know it was a common odor of dogs. Sure beats 'wet dog'.

well i keep looking on the internet and have still found no solutions, although it sure is more widespread than i thought. but since i have found out that it is just dixie's feet, i guess its just a sweat thing since its just after her walks and after she has been laying on them awhile. i wiped them off with a wipey after her walk just now and that really helped. not a big deal, just had me wandering what the heck that smell was...lol Skip

OH my gosh guys WHAT A FUNNY SUBJECT each post kept me laughing!!
yes even my belated Dal Petie had the Frito feet odor..guess what guys..the only place our canines sweat is through their feet...that smell is equivalent to our nasty foot odor lol yuk I say...desulve baking powder in warm water and give your pooch a food rub down. It's even worse when they get wet and dry off..you know I kind of like that smell HA HA LOL and miss it sense I don't have anymore dogs I own..and no I don't smell every dogs feet when I groom them.. my customers will think I'm nuts!! lol But go a head a try that rub down for baking soda is a neutralizer.

Yes, Hollie has "corn chip feet" too. I also think that it is from the sweat because it is worse when she is hot.

Well, at least she doesn't smell like stagnant creek water, which my dogs were going in and rolling in on a daily basis, sometimes more than once. And then I had a dog who got skunked twice, cause she didn't get it the first time. Used to have a dog when I was a little girl who rolled in cow poop and dead animals.

I could go for a food-smell-alike dog.
