We've gone to the Mexican Flea Market, on Business 83, near Val Verde Road. They have the usual 'flea' stuff, great produce, and 'papas'! The papas are spiral cut potatoes, pierced on a long stick, and deep fried. There is a table to 'dress' them. There are fresh limes, sour cream, catsup, hot sauce, and some other seasonings. Oh, they are so good. Many of the vendors don't speak English. When you use the bathroom a lady sat there and gave you a wad of toilet paper, for $.30. Just a fun day, although it was very windy, and the dirt just coated you after a while. We had to shower when we got back.

After crossing on the Los Ebanos Ferry, we took a taxi into the town. It was neat...no tourists, except for some bikers that were arriving as we were leaving. Great experience.

My wife and I are interested in being Winter Texans in South Texas next year, but we're concerned about what we'll do for entertainment since we don't golf, play tennis, or fish. Are there fun things to do? Sounds like the eating is good.

Would you enjoy playing cards, dominoes, shuffleboard, water aerobics, bicycles tours, bird watching, trips into Mexico, shopping, bingo, musical shows, campfires, woodworking, computers, flea markets, museums, rodeos, playing pool, food of every type, square, round, western or ballroom dancing, RV shows, quilt shows, sewing, working with charities....you get the idea. If you're not busy in the Valley, it's not for lack of activities.

Thanks! Sounds like there's all kinds of things to do. We have no snowbirding experience. All of our camping has been in the summers in the mountains, or at the lakes.

We're going to spend our first winter as a snowbird this year and will be staying at the Llano Grande RV Park in Mercedes. This thread has been interesting and it sounds like there will be lots of things to do in the RGV. We're excited and anxious for November to arrive.

Has anyone had any problems with the food while eating in Mexico? What about produce grown in Mexico?

We have never had a problem with the food in Progresso, We eat at resturants, The street food vendors may be iffy? We buy produce at farmers markets on the USA Side & wash it, Never a problem. Not a good idea to bring produce across yourself, the USA Customs restricts many items. The Mexican Flea Markets on the USA side of the border have Great Produce, there is also a GREAT Farmers market in Donna across the street from the Don Wes Fleamarket on Business Hwy. # 83.It is open every day but more vendors on Flea Market days.
If you discover any interesting things to see or do or GREAT eating places be sure to post here.

Marilyn you chose a nice park to stay in.

As Pawatt said the food in Progresso has always been fine. We go to Progresso quite often and eat the food and have an adult beverage.

If you enjoy an adult beverage you should be vewy, vewy careful the first time you have a Margarita or two in Progresso Sometimes they are very strong. The reason for this is the tequilla is inexpensive but the mix is expensive. They are also very cheap like $1.00.
