12 of us will be meeting at South Padre on Monday. We will be meeting at Dirty Al's between 1:30 and 2 PM. If anyone wants to meet there just add yourselves to the 12 and join us.
It would be fun to put faces with names.

We ate at Ci Ci's Pizza today. $3.99 plus drink for the lunch buffet.
It was better than Peter Piper but not as good as Mr. Gattys.
For the price I would say it was well worth a try. The cinnimon rolls are GREAT!!! The employees were very friendly & entertaining.
To find it go a long ways North on 10th street in McAllen to Trenton street.
Turn right on Trenton and it will be a half block on the right. Their ols sign is still up on 10th street, Ignore it they relocated at least a few miles further down the road.

Today we went on the Viva Mexico "Farm Tour". The bus picked us up at our park at 7AM and we didn't get back until after 9PM tonight. We were told we would return around 6PM. We had no other plans so it didn't matter (actually today was our Wedding Anniversary )Some of the people were getting a little restless I guess they had missed bingo or something.

We started with a visit to a farm that grows plants from seeds. Companies send the seeds to this farm and they plant them in the green houses and when they are large enough they send them back to the companies that ordered them. He said he can have over a million dollars in seeds in his possession at one time. He is young (40 something... I think) Frenchman and very interesting. He also said women were his best employees at the tedious, repetitious jobs.

Next stop was an Auction Barn. As soon as I stepped off the bus the smell took me back to my childhood. My Grandparents raised cattle. There was a new housing addition adjoining the auction barn and my DH questioned why anyone would build there. I said it reminded me of the farm and I loved that smell. He didn't seem to understand
We crossed the Border at Roma and shortly caught up with a large escorted group of Winter Texans in a bicycle caravan. It was raining and had turned very cool. They were headed to the same restaurant to have lunch as we were. Lunch included all the margaritas or Cervesa you cared to have.

Next stop was a Boot Factory. Again very interesting. They showed us all of the different "skins" they make boots out of. We actually went all through the factory up close and personal. The boot factory workers make $8.00 a day. We noticed there were no women and it was explained that would be a distraction for all of the young men who worked there

We went to Falcon Dam and Sugar Lake. The irrigation canals were explained. We stopped at a 600 acre Farm in Mexico.

Our tour guide stopped the bus at one point and brought back a plant that none of us had ever heard of or seen. I don't remember the name but it is supposed to be very good for arthritis and is used in Religious Ceremonies in Southern Mexico by the Indians. He also said if you chewed enough of it you would be "stoned to the bone". No one offered to try it but I did notice there was probably more pictures taken of this plant than anything else on the tour

The tour was $40.00 including lunch and all drinks. It was a long day but packed full of information. I would highly recommend it and it was a fun way to spend our Anniversary.

We have several friends who are staying at BPV and their only complaint is that the mosquitoes come out at dusk. The shrubbery is not as thick there as it is at the birding center.
