If you hold out for a better price it will be sometime after Christmas, if at all. The iPod video which are the 30G & 60G
are in extremely short supply in all the stores around Houston.

What a great dad. I wish my dad would buy me one. I had to pay for mine myself. Check out http://www.ilounge.com/. Most of the members there are as crazy about their $300 ipods as we are of our $30,000 RV's.

Take my advice. If someone offers you a free iPod, don't take it. I received a mini at a conference last spring, and since then its cost me more than I care to count. First it was another iPod for the DW, then downloading songs, then more disks for the PC. Now, its three of them for the grandkids' Christmas. These things are addicting

An update: I had both crossfade playback AND sound check (maintains a constant volume among different tracks) selected. I unchecked sound check and increased the time on crossfade, and it helped very little, at the expense of making my songs from CD fade out way to early. Again, when played back over the computer it sounds fine. You'd think it would sound the same on the Ipod as it does on my Windoz computer.

I complained to Apple and they refunded my $.99. Reading in the iPodlounge this seems to be a fairly common problem...I must say I'm a bit disappointed.

You're disappointed because your song won't crossfade on a ipod? You are really easily diappointed.

BTW, many songs crossfade on their own as delivered by the artist.

mikeandlorie are right. The only price break you will ever see on an Apple product is about $5. Some resellers offer additional goodies along with the main purchase (like a free printer with a computer) as a substitute for a price break. The bottom line is that you should buy where it's most convenient. Apple charges sales tax everywhere as far as I know. Maybe you can find a reseller that doesn't. That might save you a few bucks.

By the way, although the FM transmitters work pretty well for ipods, the best way to listen to it in a vehicle is by routing the output directly into a port in the stereo. There are adapters available that do that. Some stock units and some aftermarket units offer a direct input on the stereo.

No Creeper, I'm disappointed that a song I download from Apple plays like it's supposed to on Windoz PC, but won't play properly on Apples's own iPod!

Reading the iPod forums it seems like this is common problem that Apple deems to ignore.

You can get deals on the shuffle on overstock.com. The 512M one was $84 a few days ago. Love to upgrade my iPod color to a video, but not until they get more storage on them.

The Nano's look like a nice replacement for the mini. Be CAREFUL - 2 kids at my childrens' school already broke theirs in half by putting them in jeans front pockets. They are very thin and not as sturdy as the thicker iPods. An arm or waist carrying case would be a good investment.

Crossfading is not a feature of the iPod so, it is playing properly. It's not a problem it's a feature that people are asking for. People on the ipodlounge are asking for it to be added. not complaining it's a defect.

I've learned that the iPod does not support crossfade. Itunes playback on your PC: yes. iPod: no.

Apple uses an "old-school" way to read VBR headers on audio files. Here's a good article about it: VBR fix. This causes to the iPod to read the track length incorrectly, ending the song before it's over. In my case, I'm missing about the last 5-6 seconds of the song. Some have reported missing up to the last 45 seconds. Many people (including me) have complained to Apple for months but Apple refuses to address the problem.

It is very annoying when a song builds and builds to a "grand finale" only to have it cut off suddenly like a bullet was put through the singers head in mid-note.
