1/5/2009: The following updates have been made to the Visited States Map website...

  • Hawaii is now part of the US
  • All of Mexico has been added.

I thought it would be interesting if people could create a map that showed the states they visited (similar to the stick on maps people have on their RVs), and place this map in their signature so others could see where they have traveled and the states they have visited.

If you would like to create a Visited States Map for your signature, follow these steps.

    Create your Visited States Map.
    1. Go to http://www.epgsoft.com/VisitedStatesMap/.
    2. Select the states you have visited.
    3. Set the map size to small, since RV.net forums limit images sizes to 100 pixels in height.
    4. Set the file format to GIF or JPEG (JPEG files look better).
    5. Create the map.
    6. Once it appears, save it by right clicking on it and selecting Save Picture As... (remember where you save it).

Add the map to your signature.
    6. Go to the RV.net forum.
    7. Login if you aren't already (click Login Here at the top of the page).
    7. Click on My Forums at the top of the page.
    8. Click on My Preferences.
    9. Go to the line titled Signature Picture and click on Browse...
    10. Select the file containing the map that you saved in step 6 and click Open.
    11. Click on Submit Changes at the bottom of the page.

That's it. Now everyone can see where you've been. To update the map at any time, just repeat the steps above.

Nice, but that web-site only has 49 states in their map. I realize that you have to know the special turnoff from I-5 in the southern California area to catch the bridge to Hawaii.

We used to have a similar map on our web-site (www.fredandjo-onthego.com) for our travels but after visiting all 50 the map was full so we took it off and now have to think about a different progress chart of some kind.

Yea, I left Hawaii off, figuring it would be a little hard to get the RV there (although I guess you could rent an RV there?). Maybe I'll add it in to make it more general purpose and not just RV related.

Here's a question my wife has (since we bought one of those sticker maps for our TC). What qualifies as a "visit"?

I consider it a "visit" only if we have drove through any part of a State while towing the fiver...
