I purchased the "shade cloth" from a local hardware store and made a shade for my large back window in the 5th wheel. Added elastic loops, mounted Command hooks on the RV and hung it on the window. Used Command hooks so they would be easy to remove if necessary. Made a smaller one for the kitchen window and am attaching it with suction cup hooks...much easier to do but don't know how it will hold over the summer. Also used the shade cloth to make a awning for the end of the rv awning patio awning. It attached to the awning hardware with velcro straps and can be used at either end. The shade cloth sews very easy and takes up very little storage space when not in use.

scootsk wrote: I would stay away from rolling a sheet in the awning. From my experience the awning holds a lot of water, even if you roll it up dry, water will get in from rain, etc. The sheet will soak up the water and mold. If rolling the shade with the awning, I would stay with a material less prone to growing mold.
Good point about it getting wet and mold.
We generally don't leave the shade up past noon when the sun passes the side of the trailer making the sheet unnecessary. The times it does get rolled up with the awning is when we get freak wind burst and have to get the awning in NOW. Unclipping the tiedowns takes a second but removing the sheet and cord from the tract would take too long so it all goes up together.
I like the shower curtain idea especially for the sides. A nice pattern would look nicer than the sheet.

Poppy & Nana wrote: so is this in a roll or package...any idea where in the garden department????? and was it listed as sun shade???
It is just material, a polypropylene type stuff. It is the same material that Camping World and other places sell for lots of bucks, but are hemmed and already have grommets.
It cost me $18.96 for the 15' roll and I found it in the garden/plant department last spring/summer. When I purchased mine, they had several colors to choose from - white, black, tan (which I got) and green. I have not looked for it this year, so I don't know if they have it or not.
As was stated above, I folded it over on the edges, which were raw and placed 5-6 grommets across the top and 3 on the bottom and sides. The sides were just to make it look better and the bottom was to use S hooks to hold it down. I used the same S-hooks and plastic anchors to hook it to our awning.

Found in the garden section and listed as Shade Cloth. When I got mine it was in a box of rolls standing on end in the aisle. About 3 foot tall roll of tan colored material.
I'll look tomorrow at the wrapper since I now store it in that bag under the bed.

Bought the over the door plastic hooks (open like an acordian) and hang our bath towels. Each gives 4 hooks.
I also took old somewhat faded bath towels, sewed them and hang them over the front door steps going into the fifth wheel. Best thing I can throw them in the wash and have clean step rugs all the time.

Popeye59 I'd go one further. - sometimes a campfire is more about sharing. I love this hint and can't wait to try it out with the kids.
Thanks all for the great hints - and the chit chat.

Unbelievable tips, tricks and ideas.
We bring a hatchet/ax for chopping up firewood that may be too big
I bought a pair of welding gloves for about $10 at Menards They are thick and cover a large part of the arm. I can handle hot cast iron pots/pans, campfire grill and hot firewood without getting burned. $10 well spent
We bring two collapsable trash cans and use one for trash and one for recyclables. We have not been to many campgrounds that recycle so we usually haul the recycling back home to set out at the curb
Some days you're the dog...some days you're the hydrant.

Okie in Wyoming wrote: I have read many suggestions on how to keep toilet paper or paper towels from unrolling while traveling. Here is what I do:
I take a straight pin with a colored head and stick it in the the last sheet showing on the roll. The colored head helps locate it when we arrive. To keep track of the pin, I slide it in the side of the roll, parallel to the sheets, near the cardboard tube. Stays in place there until we travel again. Works every time.
All I do is flatten out the roll before putting it on the holder. It will not unroll on it's own.

Thank you for posting the YouTube article on cleaning the windshield. We wipe all our wiper blades with RainX, too. Good stuff.
