GM for sure.

1) Most power and torque
2) No recalls or TSB on GM - Ford has 60 or 70 on P-S
3) Transmssion - ALlison 1000 is used in US Army tanks
4) Pulling - GM owns the stock and modified classes in truck pulling
5) Roadway uses GM pickup to pull 20,000+ lb trailer on a daily basis
6) 2007 Duramax will have 400+ HP / 800+ lb-ft torque and get 20+ MPG

Need I go on???

Ford will be out of the diesel truck business in the next 2-3 year.

Has anyone noticed that Navistar is getting ready to take another plant shutdown, after taking off 2 weeks in July? Duramax is working 7 days a week to try to keep up.

Ford changes their design every year to try to fix their problems. Duramax has been building this same base engine unchanged for many, many, years.

7)Dont forget that the DMax is now the primary power source for aircraft carriers. The nuclear reactors had too much exhaust.
8)Chevy is making money hand over fist working 8 days a week just look at Delphi.
Franklinman, since you can prdict the future (power ratings, business viability) shouldnt you be making stock predictions instead of this stuff?

Seriously, I would lean towards the DMax for overall comfort and power. The Ford would be a close second, but that's only my opinion which is worth nothing except to me.

We went thru this last December, so I thought I'd try to inject a little logic into this arguement. Had an 03 Dodge 2500 with cummins diesel and auto. It did a great job, but the new 5er was more than the 2500's rear axle and tires would handle. One thing that really concerns me is when the load of the 5er exceeds max ratings of the tires. That's just asking for trouble.

So for starters, the first thing to consider is which truck will handle the load you plan to pull. If all three handle the load, then price would be the deciding factor because all three are great trucks.

We drove the Chevy and Ford, starting with duallys. Although we loved our Dodge, the 06 Dodge transmission doesn't come close to matching that of Chevy or Ford. Of the two duallys, we really liked the quiet and handling of the Chevy, but it was considerably more expensive than the Ford.

Then I looked at the Ford single rear wheel. It would more than adequately handle the pin weight and total load of our 5er, it was a whole lot less than the Chevy dually, which was rated at the SAME gvwr as the Ford single rear wheel, so we got the Ford.

Now after a year, the Ford drives great and has been absolutely trouble free for 15k miles. (Just did the 15k service) We've been from Texas to Florida and back and up in the Colorado Mountains, going up and down some steep slopes. It handles the 5er great, and the transmission/engine brake in tow haul mode is super.

Would I make the same choice again. Dont' know. The Ford is much noiser than the Dodge was. I think, knowing what I know now, that I would give more serious consideration to the Chevy Dually. But then, how much is a quieter engine worth?? And, do I really want to drive a dually lwb around for a daily driver? (we are full timeres so the truck is our only vehicle) Have fun.

Well leaving the best truck engine available out, the Dodge Cummins. My 2nd choice would be the Ford. The Chevy's aluminum heads and crankcase leave me wondering how durable the Isuzu motor the Chevy uses will be. As far as transmissions go, my opinion is an automatic on a diesel truck is a mistake. With the manual transmission you can tow in overdrive, you do not have to worry about hunting and transmission temperature. Initial cost and maintance is much less, and you have 6 speeds instead of what the rubber band/automatic transmission offers.

2003 Jayco 308fbs eagle 33' tt, towed by a 2003 Ram 3500 slt, quad cab dually, cummins diesel ho, trailer towing package, with 6 speed manual. Hauls better 1/2, 3 kids, myself, and a 2003 ez go clays car.. I have added so far, neon lights, clearance lights, back up lights, black light, lift kit, mud tires, and everything necessary to make the golf cart street legal. It's now ready to spend the winter in the garage for more mods. More neon, strobe lights, alarm, a pa system, maintance, and whatever else that comes along. This golf cart does wheelies and travels thru 7 inches of mud when need be. Two honda eu2000i gens twinned to supply the electrical power. Latest addition an 04 Honda Goldwing. Too early in the day for a truck war. Since you are constatly buying and selling them...why not buy both. In fact, why not buy 3 or 4 of both..then you won't have to decide on color either.

Buy what your DW likes!!!! That way, there won't be an "I told you so" in the future!

Seriously...I would have bought a Ford Ranch King version if it were for the ongoing 6.0 PSD problems (don't bother to tell me they are fixed...I know way too many ranchers here with new PSDs who have had major problems). And NEVER buy a first year model of ANY vehicle!

All trucks have problems so more than others people say ford is better but the 6.0 is a piece of sH$t. but you look at the numbers of how many they sell a year is almost double than the numbers. There will always be more people telling problems because twice as many people have them. The Chevy has a nice ride but a weak front suspention. you will hear problems about about that combo. Dodge is nice with CTD but the tranny is so,so. I have 3 6.0 fords 1 F-350 srw,F350 drw, F-550 and I beat the hell out of them every day they all towed are 40ft ww cl. and out of all of them little problems that have been fixed in one day. They are all good trucks it all in what you want.

The Chevy srw only picks up about 350 in cargo capacity. You cannot get a sb in any Chevy one ton and the heavier truck costs cargo capacity too...and there is only 700 difference in weight between the 3/4 and one ton (9200/9900).

What you need is what I brought home yesterday...2007 Silverado Classic D/A DRW CC.

Flaming on...This is a NO BRAINER! Hands down, get the DODGE! Oops, thats right, I forgot, the Dodge has too much power and scares you. I would get the Chevy then even though it it is one goofy lookin' truck....flaming off.

Seriously, I would get the Dodge. No issues with the new tranny.

Get the manual transmission with either truck and you should have no tranny issues. Automatics have no business towing in my opinion. With a manual there is no overheating, or hunting, and you can tow in overdrive.
