The latest update as of 12/5/2006 has been added to the 11/23/2006 update.
Dometic has a proposed solution and schedule for initiating the recall.
Basically, they are going to add a second burner cover to prevent the ammonia from getting to the burner if one of the leaks that can cause a fire occurs. In short, they are responding to the safety issue; and there is no info on any help with possible damage that has been done.
Since these refers are all over 3 years old (last production year was 2003), I'm sure Dometic won't do anything for failures that have, or may soon, occur due to weld failures probably caused by the higher powered heating elements.
Serial number and model number information. Grillmeister reminded me that the question has popped up in threads in other forums, and suggested I get the info into them. Two quotes from posts in the thread in Tech Issues:
Grillmeister wrote: I got through to a representative at Dometic this morning, I was reluctantly transferred a couple times. The only way I was able to convince them to connect me to someone regarding the recall was to tell them I would post the information on the RV.NET Forum and possibly save them a few hundred phone calls. I was finally connected to a gentleman by the name of Brad Sergeant, I explained the question about either being on the model number list and not the serial number list or on the serial number list and not the model number list.
He said you have to be on BOTH lists to be involved in the recall. I asked since my unit was on the serial number list but not the model number list they must use the same concurrent serial numbers on different models, he said yes they do.
I might also add that everyone I spoke to did not seem very happy discussing the topic.
Hope this helps.
Chris Bryant wrote: I should have chimed in about serial numbers- the way Dometic does serial numbers is the first number is the year, the next two numbers are the week, and the remaining numbers are the numbers for that week- IOW, 4253407 would be the 3407th product built in the 25th week of 2004 (or 1994, or 1984, but the products take care of decades).
Every product Dometic builds goes in to that numbering system, so even air conditioners would have serial numbers in the affect S/N range.
Heck- I even have a Dometic serial number .
The recall info is on Dometic's web site: Dometic Recall
Note: "7. If you previously paid to repair or replace a Dometic refrigerator that failed due to this defect, you can be reimbursed for your costs pursuant to Dometic´s Pre-Notification Reimbursement Program. To be eligible for reimbursement under that Program, you must complete and submit the required form and provide the necessary documentation. The Program and form can be obtained by calling 1-888-446-5157."

Thanks to the members who have provided info on this new one.
Dometic has a new recall for refrigerators made between June 1, 2003 through September 30, 2006. Many of these are the same models as were in the older recall (Recall number 06E076000). (Technically, Dometic’s letter indicates an extension of the original, but NHTSA assigned a new Recall Number and the information is under that new number.)
Since it has a new NHTSA number, I’m starting a new thread on this one; but the actual work appears to be the same as in the first recall.

Recall Number: 08E032000
Summary:
DOMETIC HAS REPORTED A SAFETY RELATED DEFECT COVERING 745,574 TWO-DOOR REFRIGERATORS MANUFACTURED BETWEEN JUNE 1, 2003 AND SEPTEMBER 30, 2006, WITH SERIAL NOS. 320XXXXX THROUGH 352XXXXX; 401XXXXX THROUGH 452XXXXX; 501XXXXX THROUGH 552XXXXX; AND 601XXXXX THROUGH 639XXXXX, INSTALLED IN CERTAIN RECREATIONAL VEHICLES AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND SOLD AS REPLACEMENT EQUIPMENT. A FATIGUE CRACK MAY DEVELOP IN THE BOILER TUBE WHICH MAY RELEASE A SUFFICIENT AMOUNT OF PRESSURIZED COOLANT SOLUTION INTO AN AREA WHERE AN IGNITION SOURCE (GAS FLAME) IS PRESENT.
Consequence:
THE RELEASE OF COOLANT UNDER CERTAIN CONDITIONS COULD IGNITE AND RESULT IN A FIRE.
Remedy:
THE VEHICLE MANUFACTURERS WILL NOTIFY OWNERS OF RECREATIONAL VEHICLES THAT HAD THE REFRIGERATORS INSTALLED AS ORIGINAL EQUIPMENT AND DOMETIC WILL NOTIFY OWNERS OF THE AFTERMARKET REFRIGERATORS. DOMETIC WILL INSTALL A SECONDARY BURNER HOUSING FREE OF CHARGE. THE RECALL IS EXPECTED TO BEGIN DURING APRIL/MAY 2008. OWNERS MAY CONTACT DOMETIC AT 888-446-5157.
