I've been trying to get straight answers from DirecTV about receiving their programming in my RV as well as at home. What I'd like to do is replace Cox Cable (home) with DirecTV...then, when we're ready to hit the road, take one of the receivers from the house and plug it into the coach's pre-wired satellite connections to use when we're parked. It seems so painlessly easy, but see next paragraph. Numerous calls to the DirecTV toll-free numbers have resulted in different answers -- some phone reps said it was OK (no additional cost [other than for DNS if I want to put in a waiver for it])...other phone reps have told me that I must have a separate "RV" account (in addition to the house account)...still others told me that I can move the box to the RV like I want to, but I have to pay them for the service (the RV becomes an additional "room" for the house). I'd be very grateful for insight and recommendations on this question from the RV.Net community!

I never call my sat dealer for anything, I may be loosing out on some good deals, but I don't involve them at all in my trips with my second receiver. Ive been doing this for two years with no problems "so far". I pay the 5 bucks for the extra receiver and I take it where ever we go.

We have Directt TV.Four receivers in the house and one HD receiver in the fifth wheel. When I first started camping,I merely took the receiver from the house and used it where ever we went, not costing anything extra.Only drawback was no local stations once outside of 125 mile spot beam location of our home.Every receiver you order from Direct will cost you 4.99 a month. You do not need to tell them that the receiver will be used in the RV,it works fine, just no locals.IF you want locals than you will have to order the RV package with DNS and that will cost you more.I choose not to have DNS at this time,I'm enjoying camping so much,I find I don't care what's happening in Boston.

Ditto here. I tried asking Directv a few years ago and gave up on it because of the differing answers. I am paying for the additional receiver anyhow so what difference is it to them if it is in the house or RV. I just lose my local feeds if I am more than about 200 miles from the house. I can live with that.

With my DirectTV, I have 3 receivers in the house. When we go camping, I take on receiver and place in the motorhome.
It is my understanding that ONE receive need to be plugged into a telephone line at all times, so this one stays home an plugged in.
I have no problems receiving Sat TV, as long as there is a clear shot to the satellite (no trees in the way).
I have also receive my local channels on my satellite as far away from home as 300 miles (while in Myrtle Beach).
I did not sign any wavier's, so basically I am paying for the service and two extra room (approximate $5.00 per month for each room)

My installer of Direct TV in our home - told me to pick up a received from any room and bring it with us when we leave - he even gave me an extra dish to take with us - once we wire the TT for satellite.....that is what we will be doing!

You are indeed supposed to have a separate account if you want DNS. Or you can convert the account you have to an RV account. Most people simply take one or two of their house receivers with them and skip that step. What I did, since we were leaving for several months was send in the DNS waiver, when it got approved, they informed me they had to turn off all the receviers at the house except the two I had with me, which they did. When I got home I called and had them turn the other two receivers on. Now I have DNS. I like having DNS as there are many places you can't get a good signal via antenna and there isn't any cable.

I have a separate receiver in the TT and use with a portable dish. The only drawback is I occasionally have to call DirecTV to get the thing re-activated. Its a toll free number and one code on the TV. No problems so long as I have cell phone service.

Before you make your next call to DISH, just set up your satellate, turn on your receiver, then your TV-------THEN, unplug and your receiver for 15 seconds and then plug in your receiver and you should be ready to go!.
