The question was "do you have a passport?" Yes, obtained it several years ago when I started making an annual trip to Honduras. There was no hassle obtaining the passport, downloaded the application off the Internet, had my picture taken at the local Walgreen Drug, went to the Post Office and with my birth certificate and a check, and I was finished. Mine came in the mail about 2 weeks later.
My wife on the other hand never plans on leaving the U.S., so she did not see a need for one, yet. Later in life if we DO get to travel more, she may obtain one then. In reality, either you plan on leaving the States or you don't. If you think you may travel out of the country, get the passport, its not like getting a shot in the butt or anything. Anyone who pays over $97.00 (the application fee, including a $15.00 Security check fee), has more money to waste than I.

Does the phrase, "Identity papers, please." remind you of anything? I take my passport if I travel abroad, but not here in my own country. My DL will work for me.

I guess if you stay in your own pond then you know your way about pretty good, travelling is always a learning experience that is for sure.
In nine years in the Army, I traveled to a lot of countries. Never saw anything there, which made me want to return. The filth in a lot of them, definitely turned me off on wanting to visit. Have also heard from a lot of friends, who visited other countries, that the standard of cleanliness caused them to cancel longer stays, and return home.
In addition, there is so much to see in this country, may states are larger than many other countries. There just is not enough time for me to see everything here, that I want to see. If I only get to visit most National and State Parks, thats going to take me a long time. Ive been going to Yosemite, Yellowstone, and the Grand Canyon 2-4 times a year, since 1970, and still haven't seen all of them. Admittedly, have only spent 3 days to a week in them, and there are 49 other National Parks. If I have time left over, will begin touring the National Forests, and BLM areas.

I almost got a passport when youngest son (and oldest son) were in Iraq, one military and one civilian contractor. DW got hers, I had the papers but didn't do it.
I suppose if the military kid goes back, I will get a passport, just in case.
Otherwise, I have no need for one.
Identification? My DL and Retired Military ID card should be good enough.
I have no desire or plan to leave the country, there is too much in country that I haven't seen.
Flying? I have an A&P license, and I used to build pieces of airplanes. I have no desire to go anywhere on one, unless it is an absolute necessity.
Perhaps someday I will get a passport. Then again...
Just follow the link joanne00012 posted to the accurate information. Even after her post, some folks continued to post wrong information, guess they don't read much. Neither of us have a passport, it will be strange to be required to have a passport to return(by land) from a state(Alaska) within the U.S.A. next year.
I've had a passport for over 25 years, used it many times. Can't imagine not strolling the Champs Elysées, walking through the Louvre, sitting in the Colosseum, craning my neck at the Matterhorn, wondering about the builders of Machu Picchu, and staring open-mouthed at the pyramids at Giza. The world's too wonderful to be so jingoistic.
[quote=BigPackFan]I wish more people didn't want to get passports & visit foreign countries. Then my DW & I could have the beautiful beaches in Aruba to ourselves the next time we go.
