k everyone its time for diesel. I'm looking for some good feedback I been shopping around for a new truck to pull my 260fs GearBox, I know everyone here can help me with some great feedback between the Chevy 2500 HD diesel vs ford F250 diesel. Any good info will help make my decision, I love both trucks.

I'd stay away from the Ford. The Powerstroke 6.0 has had well known problems. The pre-2007 D-Max has a pretty good history and solid Allison auto tranny.

I'd look for a pre-2007 Chevy. Everyone has had to sigificantly change their diesels for '07 to meet very tight emissions regulations. It's likely they will all have teething pains.

The Ford engine is completely new for '07. Given the 6.0 problems and new engine I'd give the Ford a big thumbs down.

I happen to like the Cummins, but even it has a new engine for '07. I'd let the dust settle a while before purchasing an '07 truck.

Why would you even consider a Chevy? Chevy's are known for being hot street machines, not work horses. And don't forget how Chevy is still a stone's throw away from Chapter 11 and their unions are not happy either. And if the guys putting your truck together ain't happy, YOU won't be happy!

Fords are hard driving trucks... If you are a contractor working on a job site, but they are NOT built for the long haul as evidenced by their well publicized maintenance problems.

If you want a hauling machine... You go DODGE 2500 or 3500 with a Cummins Turbo and Allison tranny. If you really want the bomb... Take it to Banks in Azusa and add the full kit including the torque converter and engine brake like I did.

BUT... Here's the first thing you need to do... get yourself a copy of the Feb. 2007 Trailer Life magazine and read the article on the new low sulfur diesel fuel, the mandatory changes to 2007 diesel engines and what it might mean to you.

Older diesels will be only slightly effected. But some mid western and eastern states are getting a pass on implementing the new fuel until as late as 2010! So you may only be able to get as far as NM and have to turn back because the new engines can't handle the higher sulfur fuel and will stop dead!

Study up and and you will see I'm right.

cbartolo,

Both trucks will work fine for you, asking a Ford vs GM question on here will have every one beating their chest about how their truck is best. You need to go drive them and see which one fits you the best and which one you can make the best deal on. Either one will pull your trailer just fine.

Good luck !

Drive them both, buy the one that you like the best. Personally? I like the cummins powerplant, but the dodge quad cab didnt have enough room and the mega cab used up the little available payload. The chevys were a bit more comfortable inside, but I didnt like the bodystyle and it wasnt worth the extra cash to me. I've had both the 7.3L and now the 6.0L, havnt had any major issues with either. I wouldnt worry about 6.0L problems, all 3 brands have had issues. To all the guys bashing the 6.0L [most of which never owned one], I'd ask why Ford leads the light duty diesel market if the 6.0 was such a flop. I'm still waiting for Toyota's 3/4 and 1 ton diesel offering. That would be my solution. Unless someone wants to build me a truck with a real allison tranny behind a cummins motor in a Ford body with a Chevy interior. For $30k.

It will be tough to get an unbiased opinion here. Doubting another man's truck is like questioning his manhood!

Yes, the early build 6.0L had some issues. I know, I own one and have had my share of dealer visits. Having said that, there are MANY happy owners. Here in northern Alberta where the temps hit -40 for weeks at a time you sure see a lot of Ford pickups hauling oil refinery equipment on a daily basis.

Aside from the problems (that were covered under the 160,000 km warranty) I've been pleased with the performance. As far as the overhauled engine goes, that's in the new '08s. The '05-'07s are performing much better than the first generation.

Get the chevy. You don't see them broke down on the side of the road, they ride nice and are quiet.

If you shop soon you can still get an 07 Dodge with the old 5.9 engine. I just picked up our new 07 dually, Dodge of course. I looked at all of the big three again this time around and I ended up back with a Dodge. The GM's are way over priced for a truck that can't even keep a daytime running light working and and I just couldn't bring myself to buy a Ford with that joke of a motor they have been spitten out for the last couple of years. With the more fine tuning of the Dodge 48RE auto you should have no issues. I towed very frequent on our last 04.5 48RE and it was very reliable for us.
