Hi all,
We are OK, we were under voluntary evacuation until 4:00 PM yesterday. The Toyhauler was packed and ready to go. Thank god for fire crews, wind change, air drops and fire breaks. We only had 10 fire units assigned to fight the western front of the fire (Harris) in our area. All the fire resources were stretched very thin and they did an outstanding job with what they had. We had one of our squadrons (HSC-85) in the air with buckets dropping water all day and they will be back at it today.

I have a house in Lake Arrowhead--in the Blue Jay area--and boy do I have my fingers crossed--it sure doesn't look good--though there has been no mention of the Blue Jay area. Nothing to do but sit and wait. Lars

Just got an e-mail from a friend whose husband is helping the Fire Dept and she is still in Lake Arrowhead--saying 128 homes have been burnt by the Grass Valley fire and that fire is headed for Twin Peaks--Chuck and Ruth, isn't that where your place is? Also, there is a fire headed straight for the village of Running Springs.

Yup, and we just got a call, our house is still standing as of 9:20am with fires all around in the area. Lars your house is probably safe, it it was not in the path of the fire as far as I know. I will keep you updated as I get more information. I tried to get back up this morning, but since I dont have a "fire pass" I am out of luck.

Wish I could have got more off the mountain, I had to leave the Dodge dually, the Ranger, and the Harley. Good thing I have good insurance.

Chuck and Ruthie and Lars,
You folks are in our thoughts. Hope you are as blessed as we were.

We are still standing as of 6am this morning. I have been called back to work and will be going up tomorrow morning to start mop-up in the burned areas of our district. I may go up this afternoon to get the Harley since it get the best mpg and I will be comuting for a couple of days, till the smoke clears up a bit.

Chuck--if you have the opportunity--please take a drive down Rainier--I think we are in your District.
Got my fingers crossed for your place, too Thanks, Lars

Thats a given, and there are a few others I have to check on also. I think the damage to mine will be all smoke damage. It was right in the path from the winds.

91* in the desert right now.

I see on the news that they are saying that some of these where started by arson, I sure hope they catch them all and throw the book at them. We have enough problems with just the wind, we really don't need fire disasters on top of that.

Both fires in the mountains are "undetermined" at this point.

Thought I should let you know that we are OK, so far. Fires are all around us but so far the Crest and Harbison Canyon area are not burning. We have moved our camping trailer down to my Mom’s house in El Cajon packed with important stuff and our trucks have been moved to a safe place, (one of them in Mom driveway which doesn’t quite fit. I should take a picture of it!) Cliff and I, along with the cats, are waiting it out at home, despite the fact that we are in an evacuation area. We are well informed and ready to leave at any moment. We have been through this before so not to worry.

If Lake Morena doesn't burn up I still have three sites for anyone else that would like to join us. The Pacific Southwest Railway Museum is a great place to visit if you want or just kick back and enjoy the park, if it's still there. I am planing a "crock pot pot luck" for Saturday night. More info later, depending on if the park is still there or not. I hope the worst of these fires are over with by the end of the week or that could be just wishful thinking.

PS Chuck and Ruthie do you still have a house????

It was 91 here in Lakewood when I got home at 6:00 PM.

But only supposed to get to 76 tomorrow.

Glad to hear everyone checking in and saying they are ok. We have friends and acquintances in just about all of the fire areas, and all is well so far.
