Our furnance works great but we do take the portable heaters so we don't use up our propane as much. We are paying for the electric so why not use it.

I am a big fan of ceramic heaters and really encourage their use. The only problem is when you have no 110v service, you have to rely on the furnace. They are loud but you will get used to it. If you dry camp, ensure the tank (or tanks) are full and you have a good (fully charged) battery or two. The furnace takes a LOT of power running the fan. For more than one or two nights, an alternate source of power (solar/generator) is almost a necessity.
Our 07 Niagara heater is a flame thrower but we are having trouble getting rid of the "new heater" smell which is pretty severe. I've pushed a lot or propane through it but it's taking some time to air out. Any ideas ? Also the thermostat is not the most efficient. For those who have it, is it difficult hooking up the digital replacement?

Installing a digital thermostat was a five minute job on my startcraft. I purchased a battery power Hunter from good old Wally world and it made a world of difference.
If you search this site you will find many references to swapping out to digital.
