Have the 5th airborne installed. Works great. In case you did not know (I did not the fist time I hooked up) You do need to set the air pressure when you hook up to get the full effect and handling improvements.

As I mentioned earlier on this thread, I had a Trailair Centerpoint suspension and a Fifth Airborne pinbox installed on May 9th. There were no problems with the installation of the Trailair product. However, I immediately had the installer remove the Fifth Airborne as it raised the front of my fiver four and a half inches (the trailer towed level prior to installation of the Fifth Airborne.) The Fifth Airborne was supposed to be a replacement for my Atwood AB-34 pinbox, but there wasn't enough adjustment on it for my trailer. So, it cost me over $100 in labor charges to find out that it wouldn't work on my fiver. Oh well, live and learn!!

Had the 5th AIRBORNE hitch installed a few weeks ago, yes it did help the ride. But don't forget you are in a truck & trailer so don't expect it to ride like a Town Car or Cadie!

I have had the Sidewinder with 5th Airborne for a little over a month and have about 300 miles with it. It did improve my ride and only changed the height of the front of the 5er by a little bit. I went to the scales right after install and still had the pin weight right at 20%.

Hope opening an old topic will not make too many mad.

I just installed a 5th Airborne and felt what I learned would be of help to anyone doing a search on 5th Airborne.

I was replacing a Leland 7910. I have an older 5th wheel that was built back when we did not need a step ladder to get into our trucks.

With my 2005 Chevrolet 2500 DMAX I had to set the Leland as high as it would go and the 5th trailer hitch as low as it would go to get the trailer level. The trailer axles also were flipped. So I have no more adjustment.

The 5th Airborne installed with no problems except with it set as high as it will go my king pin is 2 1/2 inches lower than the original Leland. Wish I known this before I purchased the 5th Airborne as I would have purchased the unit. The dealer I purchased it from will take it back if I pay the freight both ways. That is about $200. I only paid $800 including the orginal freight. That is a big hit. I think I will get out the cutting torch and welder and modify the hitch to raise it 3 inches.

Have not towed the trailer yet as the trailer is snowed in. Hope to get the trailer out in the next couple weeks.

I've got the 5th airborne on my Escalade and it pulls like a dream. Really eliminates all the "chucking" and smoothens out the ride.

Got our Fifth Airborne/sidewinder last year and 5000 miles later, it has lived up to the advertising. Chucking is almost not noticeable. This was with the old truck, a 2500HD, Chev, D/A, with a 6 1/2 ft bed.

Just make sure you get the correct wedge for your hitch.

lavarock:

Please see my posts of 5/7/07 and 5/18/07 earlier on this thread. I was very disappointed in not being able to use the Fifth Airborne product. What I really wanted was the Trailair product, but they don't make one that will fit my pinbox.

The Trailair suspension, however, worked very well on our last summer's 4-month trip to Nova Scotia and other points east. It surely helped on all the lousy roads we encountered.
