I heard that the military were going to ship the SPATINI to Guantanamo, but the UN stepped in and said we couldn’t. You can still get it at the commissary at Leavenworth.

Maybe you can special order it from there!

Pot Luck Update

We know that everyone is bringing something to the pot luck on Saturday Night, so how 'bout telling us what you are planning to bring so we can all plan on how hungry to be when we arrive. Here is all that we have so far.

  • Vicki -- cooking that special Italian Beef
  • cranej -- Watergate Salad and possibly a spaetzle dish (pasta).
  • Sandy & Shirley -- jambalya and an eclair cake, we've also got two bags of napkins, a box of 500 knives and 500 forks left over from last year!
  • biggsbasement -- bringing special chicken (LOL) and a pineapple upside down cake.

Pleasse send us a PM so we can update the website page.

I'll be bringing a chicken dish..most likely "momma's chicken nuggets" as my kids call them..they are actually Old Bay chicken nuggets.

Maybe another rally or get together

Last year we went to Spring Gulch campground the weekend after Labor Day. That is when they have their annual “Grandparent’s Day / Crabs and Corn Weekend”. Maryland Crabs and sweet Lancaster County corn dinner, reservations required. Variety of activities for grandparents and grandkids, including the live band Crusin' Down Memory Lane playing Saturday.

They currently have plenty of sites available. Before we make our reservations, we were wondering if anyone else is interested. If there is enough interest we can add it to the rally list on the forum. If only a few, we can just try to get some sites close to each other.

If you are familiar with Spring Gulch, the sites on the lower level are closer to the activity building, but are not full hookup, ie, no cable and the sites are not as nice. The sites at the top have full hookups, including cable, and are close to the pool and hot tub.

PM us if you are interested or if you have any questions.

Update

The crab and corn weekend is going to be Sept 5 - 7 this year.

The upper level sites are $54 per night for Water, Sewer, and Cable. The upper sites are closer to the pool and hot tub. Lower level sites are closer to the dance hall and crab feast area but do not have cable and only 30-amp sevice. We prefer upper level for swimming and relaxing, then walk or drive down for the other activities.

You have to make reservations for the crabs when you make your site reservations. Crabs are $20 per person for 5 crabs and 2 ears of corn. Not sure of the time on Saturday, but I think it was about 2 PM last year. They had extra crabs at the end last year and gave them out to whoever was there. You should bring your own drinks, not sure what if anything was available there.

The band played oldies that night and there were quite a few who attended and danced.

The weather was still nice last year and the pool and hottub on the upper level were open. The hot tub was very relaxing and large enough for a dozen people.

So far I've had replies from Latdo, garyr, and lloydlinda. If we get a few more we'll start our own thread

OK, I'll try a breakfast casserole - never made one, but found a recipe online. Maybe I'll test it out on my nephews this weekend in Chincoteague, VA!

Great, now we have a variety (2) of casseroles!

Here's the list from the website so far:

  • robo1a -- crew member and will bring sausage
  • garyr -- I have a large 30 cup coffee maker-I will put that in the camper tomorrow, and take care of coffee and juice
  • Cyber has volunteered the Pancake Mix
  • DBConley -- a breakfast casserole.
  • pointbrze -- OK, I'll try a breakfast casserole - never made one, but found a recipe online. Maybe I'll test it out on my nephews this weekend in Chincoteague, VA!

Does anyone remember the brand of Sugar Free Syrup that they had at the Lancaster Rally? That stuff was really good. If we find out the brand, we'll pick some up.

Sandy the brand of sugar free syrup that I always use and the best I have found is Mrs. Butterworths. I think that is what I had there last year. The regular syrup was Log Cabin because that is what they have in quantity at Costco. I have tried several other sugar free and they just don't measure up to Mrs Butterworths.
