One thing I should mention about my Rockwood 2601 is the Holding tank capacity is to small only 25 gallons each tank. The fresh water shows in the brochure 31 with the water heater but its a 25 gallon tank

Both trailers are of similar quality and fall into the same group. Go with what your gut tells you and the feelings you get from the dealer. For more information on Max-Lite and the R-Vision products check out:

We looked at both MaxLite and Rockwood and decided on the Rockwood because we preferred their floorplan (2701SS) and thought the finish was slightly better. The MaxLite has good features as well such as larger tanks and a few other things I can't remember right now - but it came down to preference. We actually preferred that it was 7.5 feet wide because with the super slide the narrower width wasn't that noticeable but we thought it would have slightly better wind resistance and be slightly easier to park in narrow campgrounds. We take delivery next month and can't wait. We also chose the cream interior. good luck and happy camping!

Misc quotes from previous posts (not to target any One individual)
We are a single income family
I would suggest going to www.rv.org and ordering their materials. Even when just comparing 2 trailers, their ratings can be a good 2nd opinion on which one will be best for your $$. Spending the $150

I would NOT go to rv.org for any reason other than throwing my money into the foutain at your local mall.

I love my Rockwood - my experience daling with my dealer (C Neer in PA) and Forest River have been excellent

i have $150 for gas, i do not have $150 to spend on the most Suspect rating system in the rv/boating business

good luck with whatever you choose -

check the threads in my sig for more Forest River products (spec. Rockwood and Flagstaff )

We really appreciate the input - we (I) feel the Maxlites have better floorplans for the weight, but the Rockwoods "feel" more solid to us. Unfortunately, with our truck we are limited to only the 8272SS in the Signature Ultra Lites (2000 Dodge Ram 1500). We are currently wanting to look at the 2603 vs. the 8272 but NO dealer within 150 miles has either one to look at - they mostly all have bunkhouse models on hand. It is very frustrating. I really don't want to order one sight unseen!

We tried to get our closest dealer (15-20 miles away) to match the RVW price and they couldn't (wouldn't??) come closer than $2000-3000 and also said that SOMETIMES people had PROBLEMS getting warranty service when they bought through RVW. Ahem.
I may also mention here that they wanted almost the same price for the models we wanted to order as they did for the nice, new Sig. Ultra Lite fifth wheel (complete with fireplace and double slide) on the lot! I'm not experienced at this but that seems a little odd.

DH didn't care for that particular dealer's attitude so now the hunt is on for the next closest that may come closer to the RVW price. Now if we order from them, it looks like warranty service will be 90-150 miles away. Yikes!

We have found a Flagstaff dealer a couple of hours away that has the Flagstaff version of the floorplans we like on the lot. We may drive out there Saturday just to get our eyes and hands on them, and then find a dealer to order from.

As an aside, we did find some new Sunlines and planned to drive down Saturday to see the model we liked but they sold the durn thing today. : )

FWIW, if you are still interested in the Maxlite, while Three Way Campers in Marietta no longer sells them (they elected to sell the Surveyor line for those wanting ultralites with white interiors) they continue to service them, and seem to have a good relationship with R-Vision. (They still sell R-Vision Class B.)

Three-Way also sells some Forest River lines, though not the Rockwood (I don't think) and would probably do you just fine on warranty issues, if needed. They're a good bunch down here.

We were planning on buying the Maxlite when it was first introduced because it had the perfect floor plan for us but when we went to look at it the quality was terrible. The camper on the showroom floor literally had parts falling off of it. Hopefully the quality has improved.

We really liked the floorplans on the Maxlite better, and it sounds like there are plenty of happy owners. However, we had the same experience you did - when we went and looked at some on a local lot, there were actually pieces here and there that were broken off the display models. DH looked and said some of the broken parts looked like they had been attached with "pop rivets" as opposed to screws, which he didn't like. I think at this point we are going to check out the Rockwoods a little closer, and there is a Passport (285rl) that looks like a nice floorplan......
Thank you for all the help!!

We just purchased the 8317SS. It is a very large model but only weighs in at 5800 dry. We adored this floorplan, but I am unsure of your needs regarding family/bed situation, etc. We didn't look at the Maxlite series but did compare the Rockwoods to other ultra lights and few matched up. They had tons of features included for no extra money and the fit and finish on the TT was superior by far. Their storage options were greater also. Best of luck. It is definetly overwhelming!

It's "S'more Fun" now that we are Rving it!
