The food at the Mather Lodge restaurant is both excellent and very reasonable
just be sure to have your supplies with you as there are no stores on the mountain---you can get snacks at Mather Lodge and the visitor center gift shop.

Hi Paul,

Yes we did have two very nice meals at the lodge when we were there. WE can't wait to return. We really like the Arkansas Park System sine we can reserve a specific site. We already know what site we'll be in on our return trip in May of 2008. Take care and Happy Holidays!

Should you decide to go to Petit Jean and find that the State Park is full, there is also a Lutheran camp grounds there. Our Son and his family stayed there last summer and had good things to say about it. Sorry I don't have pictures.

"Crazyoldcoot", yep we passed the CG and it looked like a real nice place. Thanks for the tip, but we've already got our reservaitons and site for the 3rd week of May. We're ready to go back now.

if you take the road from Interstate 40 at the Morrilton Exit to get there, the highway goes across the Arkansas River, then it's very very steep and fairly curvy. We're doing very well if we get up the mountain at 20-30 miles per hour. It's beautiful, but narrow, curvy and steep

Is there another way? Is it do-able with a 33' + toad? I'd love to stay there when we're returning from the southwest 2nd week of May - are reservations essential mid-week mid-May?

You shouldn't have any problems at all entering the park from either direction. Our trailer is 30' pulled by our F250, we had no problems at all. We talked to several 40' Class A owners. They said they had no problems at all coming up the mountain.

When we made our reservations for this coming May, several of the sites we wanted we already booked, so we opted for another site just as good. The "A" loop is great with full-hookups.

I have just confirmed our reservations for Petit Jean (site# 19) in June. It looks like an incredible place to stay. We will be there for a week.

Thanks for all the great ideas.
