I am on TC#4, this is the first unit I have had an issue with the LP going off while driving. I have DC as an option, but it seems to pull the battery down and doesn't keep the fridge all that cold. I am thinking either the thermocouple is weak, or the fact that the fridge is on the left instead of the right side, that it is getting more wind, thereby snuffing the flame.

Then again, why does the DC not really do the job? This is my first unit with a DC function.

Ok how old is the unit and what is it and who makes it. Does it have manual burner liting or is it automatic. With all that said you need to be sure the burner is cleaned out. Next be sure all the shielding is in place and finally you can uually adjust the burner so be sure it is set to burn with a blue flame.

If your unit is a Dometic and it has automatic relighting you might need a new circuit board. We have a two way (propane and 110V) Dometic and experienced this problem while we were under way. After being passed by large trucks we would stop at a rest stop and the "check" light would be on. This means the flame blew out and did not relight. We discovered that there was a recall on the Dometic cricuit boards for this problem, however, our unit was not listed in the recall. Nontheless we had our board replaced and the problem was solved.

We used to have a popup camper with a three way refrig. It had a three way refrig and the propane was not an automatic light but manual. Even with proper venting and wind shielding in place it would blow out when underway. We ended up using the dc to power it while driving and either propane or 110v when set up for camp.

The previous post gave some good idea on what to look at,I'm going to give you a couple more based on my own past experience,First,refrigerator on LP requires 11 inches of water column to function correctly ,low LP pressure to the flame will allow it to blow out easier. This condition can be corrected by adjusting the LP regulator or you may have to replace it if no adjustment can be done. Second, there can possible be some type of rubbish or carbon build up at the pilot flame. This just simply requires it to be cleaned.

Thanks! I'll check this out when my daughter and SIL return the unit this weekend. One of those aggrevating little issues.

I can have the manometer check done at work.

WA1RI;

The DC function on a three way refrigerator is very weak and used to maintain cold in the box. It will pull down the batteries rather quickly if they aren't under continous re-charge.

I have had 3 RV style vehicles over the past several years: My current Lance 981, a Lance 835 and a '91 Coleman Williamsburg Popup tent trailer. The only one of the three where I can realiably use propane while travelling is on the current 981. It would blow out on both the coleman and the Lance 835.

There are numerous posts on this forum and others about baffles and other attempts to keep this from happening. Search the forums and you will find them. I never had any luck with any of the suggestions. Hope you do better.

My first 2 TC's the propane was very dependable for sstaying lit. The last 2 not so. I'll have the water col checked, but would think it is fine, based on stove and water heater use.

First check will be the igniter etc. Thermocouple is easiest cheapest to change out.

The DC seems useless! I have a solar panel and driving on sunny day, you would think it ought to keep up with the DC draw on the fridge, but upon arrival the inside is at about 60 deg, and the battery is at half.

@Wa1ri
A baffle will work ,just returned from a 2000 mi. trip and no burner blow outs. On previous trips, it happened all the time. I will not be descriptive about mine now ,because I want to modify it so It falls more under the guidelines HERE.

An example of another poster's BAFFLE that worked for him
