Taboky, I had my friendly auto upholster guy make me a cover to go inside my V-tailgate on my 01 Ram. It snapped on the inside and kept everything in the bed nice and dry and dust free. We used a piece of aluminum all the way across the top for support over the V notch. Sold the truck to my son and he likes it so well, he didn't even put on the stock tailgate. I had it painted to match the truck and striped it too. Still looking for what to do with the new Ram. One of the problems with these new tailgates are they are so blamed heavy and there is not much room between it and the 5r when open. May go to the Husky aluminum one though as the price is good.

JJnLilly,

I was just thinking about something like that on the way home. You don't have any pics of it, do you?

Thanks

Wish I could find my bookmark for a company that will V-notch your stock tailgate. When I get my new truck that is what I am going to do, cost no more than buying a aluminum louvered gate. Then I will have a custom tonneau cover made which will handle the V-notch as mentioned above. Now if the house will ever sale, oh yea and then find my bookmark or search the internet.

Does anybody here have a tailgate made by Handy Industries and can comment on it?

Think this one would be a resale killer for your truck!
Buyer must want it for a 5th - and like that style.
Imagine it's a bit more than the $150. variety from Northern Tool.
~
You or a buyer could replace it with a "stock" tailgate when you
are ready to sell. But - -
Get ready for a REAL shocker (replacement cost!).
~
If you are really set on the idea - I would try to find a
"center damaged" tailgate at a wrecking yard and modify that one.
~
You *WILL* have a one-of-a-kind truck! Maybe good, maybe bad.

I purchased the metal one made by Handy Industries last year when I had my 2005 F250. When I purchased my current truck several months ago, I called them and asked if it would fit. They told me I needed new brackets and inserts, which they shipped for around $30.00. I just got around to trying them a couple of weeks ago. The brackets appear to exactly the same. I put them on the tailgate anyway and discovered one of the inserts was wrong. I called them and the young lady I spoke with wasn't sure what I needed. She took my number and promptly returned my call. The correct adapter insert was shipped promptly. When I originally received the tailgate, it didn't fit correctly. A customer service rep called that time and explained how to adjust the brackets for a perfect fit. I would recommend them based on the customer service I've received.

I purchased my Stromberg Carlson from Northern tool (the metal one) and got a great deal on it as someone had ordered it and never came to pick it up. It was stored in a back yard area, exposed to the weather, so the box and paper work were destroyed, and the hardware package for the side latches was gone. I negotiated it down to $70 with an agreement I would not try to return it for any reason, called Stromberg Carlson and they shipped me a hardware package for $10. Would highly recommend this gate even at full price, currently $160.

I was given a custom flow as a Xmas present. It's a solid gate, but don't make the mistake I made. I was loadcing the truck and stepped out on the gate as I used to do with the regular tailgate. I'm still picking gravel out of my teeth. When I sold the truck it went with it and I'm not putting one on the new truck.

I think that I will pass buying a tail gate because I will only be making two trips a year anyway. It's not like I live full time in my 5th wheel.

I have the "Turbo Net" that is very similar to your cheapie, and LOVE IT. Easy to take it up and down, and it NEVER comes unlatched. I lost a $300 Husky metal vented t-gate traveling down a dirt road. It seperated from the box due to bed twist and the cables eventually gave up the fight. Father in-law in tow saw it going down, but by the time I got whowed-up and such, the damage had been done. LOVE MY CHEAP TURBO NET!

Same Entry Matt as well... Love it too.
