If you look at the commercial rigs the air dam goes side to side, all the way to 13'6" - basically covering the entire front of the trailer. Having worked for a major trucking company there is a financial reason for adding them - IF they cover most of front of the trailer. I don't see that in units available for pickups - unless they are new on the market.
Placement is also a big issue - notice the small distance between the air dam and the front of the trailer on commercial rigs and then look that the large distance from the top of the cab, accross part of the bed, to the front of the fiver. Big difference - which allows air spill around the dam.
So two things make a difference if it works or not.
1. Size does make a difference.
2. Distance between air dam and front of trailer.

If you get the air deflector for free, it might save you some money. If you have to buy it, it'll likely never pay for itself, and only after it pays for itself does it start putting money back into your pocket. They are said to be good bug deflectors.
Air Tabs might work better and pay off sooner if you tow many, many miles.
I'm free of prostate cancer for 5 years now.
All men over age 50 should get an annual PSA blood test. Mine had a low reading, but the yearly jump was significant. The biopsy showed cancer just entering the aggressive stage. Dr. Hackenslash removed it.
If you're using it on a pickup pulling a TT, they're useless. The wing must be mounted on the cab which is too far from the front of the TT to do any good. Actually, they're counter productive as the 'air' will swirl around the top of it, into the bed, and then against the frontal area of the TT. If you're pulling a tall 5'r, they are beneficial.

Why can't a wing be placed on a pickup that has a cab height (or taller) shell on the bed? It would be closer to the TT, and if you work the installation just right, the wing can be removed when you get back home.
