We're thinking of buying a deep fryer just for small dinners. fries, onion rings, etc...nothing fancy.
Anyone recommend a good one that they have used and love?

We have so darn many. Use the small Baby for the two of us and the big one with the thermostat for large crowds. Also have a Cuisinart monster but you need to bo cooking for a crowd.

We use a 6 qt Dutch oven hanging from a tripod, over the campfire. Keeps all the mess and steam outside. Lowering the pot will make it heat fast, and you can cook lots of frozen stuff in a very short while.

We've had a Fry Daddy since they first came out (not the same one though). After I empty it and wipe it out, I put it in the dishwasher. Be sure and let it dry really well before using it.

I like the new fryers with the heating element immersed inside the oil. They heat up a lot faster and maintain temp much better. In addition, if you fry something frozen, the oil temp return to set temp much faster due to the fact that the oil is in direct contact with the heating element. The old fashion fryers have to heat the pot first and then the pot heats up the oil.
Cleaning is a breeze; since it has a removable bin that is dishwasher safe.
You can get them at Wal Mart or Target for under $50, and they come in a variety of sizes.

Delohghi Roto-Fryer.

Uses less oil and it rotates the food for more even cooking. Easy draining too.
