Hello again. We'll be at Custer S.Dakota about the 22nd-25th of Aug. on our way to Y'stone in Class'A'w/TOAD. Not exactly sure when we'll be there , so may not get chance to make reservations.
Which of the following CGs are best or worst? Needing only water/30 Amp elect. We'll leave on Hyway 16 up to I-90 at Moorcroft, Wy.
Beaver Lake, Big pine, Custer Gulch, Crazy Horse, or Ft. WeLikeIt CG? I'm only interested in CGs near Custer. I'm aware of 'Rafter J', but feel its just too expensive. Thanks

we've stayed at both Big Pine and Ft. Welikit. Both are fine as far as we're concerned. No frills, but clean and quiet.
Both have lots of shade.... lodgepole pines.
Facilities at Ft. Welikit are very nice. Did not look at Big Pine's.
Wi-fi is iffy at both places.

I just stayed at Rafter J, and I hear ya, but I'd go back. It was a very nice place to stay, very clean, very nice people. If you do check it out, tell them what you want, some spaces are in wooded areas, some in the open. We spent a lot of time in Custer, but did not see the other CGs. My traveling companions (two other families at this time) said they thought Rafter was the best CG they'd ever been in. I think it is one of the best we have stayed in.

Just got home today from two weeks at Big Pine. Spent two weeks there last year also. Great place. Very clean bath houses and the tall pines and large sites make for a cool and comfortable place. The owners, Glen and Marci are very nice people. Try it, I think you wkill like it.

We stayed at Custer Gulch. BIG sites and easy in and out, just far enough away from the road.

Not real fancy but very easy to get to and cheap and good people.
Even tho we are in our 60's we enjoyed the Flintstones theme.

We stayed at Custer Gulch just east of the Town of Custer. Nice and quite park with roomy sites. Deer grazed at our site every morning and evening. Would definitly go back again if I am in the area.

We stayed at Big Pine last year and Beaver Lake this year. Both are just west of town on Hwy. 16. To me Big Pine is more of a campground. I enjoyed being under the big trees (we lucked out and found a spot for our satellite dish to peek through). They had a DSL connection in the office for our laptop since our Verizon aircard did not work there nor did the cell phones. There were deer walking through grazing every day.
We left from Beaver Lake yesterday. Sites were closer together but not too close in the section where we were. Free wifi worked at our site most of the time. If we walked up the hill to the office area, our phones worked. They have a pool and a water slide. The water slide is an extra charge and is open from 1-7. We didn't see any deer, but they have rabbits everywhere. It about drove our dog crazy.
I would stay at either one again without hesitation.
