Hello,
We are considering the purchase of a Jayco Designer 34RLQS and I will need a new tow vehicle since I now own a F150. I would appreciate advise from people who own this unit. What is your tow vehicle? Would you buy a different TV if you had it to do over again? If so, what?

That is a large enough trailer and will have a heavy enough pin weight. I would investigate a dually no matter what everyone else tells you. Any of the big three will do the job, drive them all and decide which fits you best. Personally I went from a Chevy to a Dodge. Not everyone will agree, but it sure is quiet now. And the factory stock exhaust brake will definitely put the stops on it

We have an '04.5 Dodge dually with the 5.9 Cummins HO. We really like the truck and have no plans to change. However, if the funding was not a problem, and we wanted to trade, I'd have to consider an '07 Dodge 3500 DRW with the 6.7 Cummins and jake brake or an '08 Ford F450 with the 6.4 twin-turbo Power Stroke.

I ran the numbers and would be over the limits with my F350 SRW 4x4 Lariat SB CC with the 34RLQS. I would recommend the F350 dually or F450.

We're looking at a Jayco Designer 36RLTS and have no doubt that our Chevy 1-ton dually is more than enough truck...

Consider a 1-ton dually if you can afford it...whether you choose GM, Ford, or Dodge is up to you...the pin weights on the higher end Jayco fiver's I believe call for a dually, not to mention the length

If you don't mind driving a dually then that is the truck for you. We have a 341 RLQS Eagle and we pull ours with a single rear wheel Dodge 2500 with 6.7 Cummins and the 6 spd automatic plus Timbrens on the rear axle. Our combined weight on our last trip was 19,656 lbs which is slightly under the 20,000 gross combination weight rating from Dodge for our vehicle. We travel lighter than a lot of campers though. Only enough water to flush, other tanks empty, and not a lot of common household items like some carry. If you loaded your Designer to the GVWR of 15,800 you would be over 3,000 lbs above the recommended GCWR that Dodge recommends. You could certainly pull it with a SRW Dodge w/Cummins but stopping and pulling characteristics might not be to your liking and it would not be as safe. The dual rear wheels add a lot of stopping power and stability to your rig.

We have an '07 35CLQS which is similar in weight to yours. We pull with a '06 F-350 SRW and are within the limits of the truck. We chose a SRW bcause we use the truck for other things besides towing. We pulled the trailer through the mountains to Tucson and back this spring. I would definitely recommend the Ford torque shift tranny and the tow command built in brake controller. Both those are exceptional. As far as a dually goes, lots recommend it. I didn't want one as I tow only 25% of the time with the truck, and a dually would be hard to fit in my garage. A SRW is easier for getting around with. Good luck.

I would go with a dually for sure. My Jayco 31RLS weighs over 1000 lbs more than the sticker says (dry), it is HEAVY, yours will be also. he dually sure makes it an easier drive...
