Lucky for FR is the fix is not expensive, but for owners stuck with a broken slide out and not knowing what to do it is HUGE problem. I would not buy a FR product till all the bad slide bolts get out of distribution channel. FR SHOULD have done a complete recall of all slides with bad bolts back in late winter when this problem came about - BUT NO - FR DOES NOT care about its customers. My parents know about this.

Is this a common issue? I haven't really inspected this area of the HTT. Should I be concerned? I posted a question a few weeks back, about what to do if the slide doesn't retract. The answers I got were that it can be done manually. Obviously, in the issue posted here...that couldn't be done. That is a little scary....can't go crawling home, from the CC, with the slide out. I don't have a police escort, and "WIDE LOAD" signs.
Seriously....spare bolts? Any other spare parts I should be thinking about?
Regards,
We picked up a couple of spare bolts and threw them in the TV glove box just in case.Probably will never need them since we have them (cheap insurance) The bolts are 1/4 X 1-1/2 go with grade 8

Funny thing, look back at his post history and you can see his comments on Forest River all started after his brand was Bashed. Seems like other posters here gave him the idea. Once these things start, it seems to be open season. All he is doing is stating his opinion of Forest River and telling his experiances.

As Chuck mentioned above, I happened to be one of the Roo 21ss owner's that had bolts shearing on the slideout mechanism. Do a search on my past posts for more information. Our dealer had to align the slide and adjust the travel stops. This seems to have solved the problem (knock on wood), as we have operated the slideout many, many times since it was repaired. I do carry some extra 1/4" x 1-1/2" long bolt/nut combinations that I picked up at home depot "just in case"...Murphy's law and all.
Johnny, you may want to have your dealer check your slideout alignment and stops. The pics of your sheared bolts looked very familiar.

Thanks for the heads up on this. As soon as I get it back together and can close the slide, I will make an appointment with a dealer to have that checked out.

We had exactly the same problem on our 2008 Flagstaff. We had read the previous issues but put off buying the bolts. Murphy's law the slide failed at a campground in the middle of nowhere. DH took some pins off the BBQ and made a home made fix for the issue. We got the slide in and drove home. Went and bought some new bolts (got 20 bolts and nuts for $5.00.) Cheap fix but DH did also have to realigne the stops as they were slightly out of allignment that was causing on side to stop before the other and probably caused the bolts to shear.
We didn't even bother to contact our dealer for help. DH said it was an easy fix. We will tell the dealer at the 3 month check just so they can inform FR.

We've had this problem with our Roo for the last year. We had the dealer repair it but all they did was put in hardened bolts. Those broke too. We finally stopped waiting for the slideout to start clicking to tell us when it was all the way in or out and have resorted to just watching it and shutting it down before it starts to click or as it just begins. We haven't broken a bolt since.
We went to Lowes and stocked up on hardened bolts before we took our last trip but haven't had to use them, knock on wood!

Can't get much stronger than a Grade 8 bolt. If it's not counterfeit.
This tread is a year old and I've not seen any mention of the problem again until today.

I posted last August, and we have not had a single problem with our slideout since the initial adjustment by the dealer (knock on wood). We still carry the spare bolts though.
Hey Russ...I see you are a stones throw away in Springfield. Welcome to the forum from a fellow Ohioan.
