Ditto.
I have no problems hitting the bumper socket with slack to spare. Why should I splice into my current harness and open more points to corosion to add a new seven pin connector? Correct me if I am missing something.

boatdoc wrote: Not to be a smarta$$ but why do you need a plug inside the bed if you have one already below the bumper by the reciever hitch.
Some do not want the cable hanging over the bed and eroding the paint on the tailgate as it moves (i.e. rubs) while you're towing. Others don't want to have to fuss with the cable (e.g. bungee cords, etc.) to keep the cable away from the tailgate. Others enjoy the convenience of having it in their bed which avoids those issues.

I have a tailgate protector over the top of mine, the only contact point I have with the gate and the cord. So no worries there. Any how, to each thier own I guess.

Somehow ours got hung up on a sharp turn and broke the cover off the 7-pin under the bumper, always thought there was enough slack to cover the turns. We had to make a rather sharp turn into a fuel stop which had a dip as well, and heard the loud "bang" when the plug was evidently pulled out at a sharp angle, breaking the cover. For that reason alone, We'll be adding one to the bed.

Lets see......I got a $100,000 dollar rig and a cable hanging over the back of my tailgate that looks like something Jethro Bodine put there. I don't think so.
I spent the $75 bucks for a quality premade splice kit and took 10 minutes to install a nice plug in my bed.

I had one truck with the plug mounted in the bed and two trucks with the plug under the bumper.
The advantages of the box mount, (as I see it) are no chance of the cord dragging on the road, easier to plug/unplug and less chance of damaging the cord or truck where the cord contacts the truck.
I will say honestly that the only time I ever had the cord get unplugged was when the generator moved in the truck box and pulled the cord from the outlet in the box (luckily got an error message on the Prodigy controller I had then).
I still prefer the inbox plug (for the reasons above), but I just haven't got around to installing one in either of the last two trucks.

Things that go in my truck bed: dirt, gravel, mulch, firewood, lumber, etc.
Number of electrical connections that allow 10,000lb rv to stop that I want in the bed to become fouled with dirt, mulch...etc: zero.
